Wii Price Due to Increase in UK

Written by bronco92 on Wednesday, 11 March 20095 Comments

Nintendo have announced that due to the low value of the UK Pound, they have no option left but to increase the price of the Wii in the UK by an additional £18-£20, They claim that whether the UK retailers choose to pass that increase onto consumers or not is entirely up to them, but it must mean that profit margins are being cut back to the bone. Expect yet more bundles to bump the price up and recover those slashed margins. No news as yet about when the increase will take effect, or which retailers will pass it on to consumers and which will swallow it.

It does seem like an extremely illogical move as their competitors explore all ways to cut prices in an already tight market and world recession.

It could partly be that, but to be fair when they set the price for the Wii they were setting it so that they would make enough profit.

The falling markets have distorted that price and now they could be making a lot less or even negative profit. (Although I doubt it’s that bad.)

Annoying, but so long as they don’t change the price of games it shouldn’t be too much for people to afford.
