if i was to contribute i'd firstly like a nice leather arm chair and then anything that <mojo> had turned down
but seiriuosly i agree with mojo i don't think we really need any special privileges and i certainly wouldn't recomend a vip area tipe place as i think it might put other people off joining

to be honest, i don't like the websites that make you pay to get the full features of that site - i think it alienates those that can not afford to pay etc
i prefer to keep things open and will always maintain that with websites that i create (unless of course it is a purpose made business website).
I know that this is not the route that wiitalk are wanting to take, but it seems like some of the members are thinking it.
@ Kandi - any website (as you well know) costs money, but not only money...time.
It is obvious already that Bronco has an income from this site (otherwise there would not be any adverts on here), now i'm not saying that this income gives him profit, but may just be enough for him to cover server costs etc. So, it's not quite a business, but there is still money coming in and out.
And also, it is quite feasible that this site is pushing the limits that you stated earlier (15gb bandwidth) - my website ( www.wiiregister.com) it currently pushing approx 3.5 - 4gb of bandwidth and that only has 350 members!
at the end of the day, i wouldn't pay for any services on this site... maybe a donation every now and then, but not a subscription

I am glad that you virtually agree with what i have said in this thread Octane, thankyou. I dont think some of the other members thou grasp what i am trying to get over, or perhaps its the way i am getting the message across.
Yes, i understand in every type of online community or online business that is setup, its costs money and a hell of a lot of time, believe me i know! lol. But, before venturing into anything like this, you must thing of the long run. Surely, Bronco knew that this community was going to take off, it was obvious. I mean you have only got to see how many new members have joined since i joined too, a hell of a lot!!
Im happy with a lil donation butting put somwhere, but i certainly do not want to feel pressured to donate...not for the sake of a private forum, no thankyou! As for the mention of bandwith etc, i would like to know how much WiiTalk are currently paying for there hosting solution and maintanance (if that is possible?). The only reason is because i believe that i could provide something for WiiTalk in order so that they do-not have to provide a paid service to members. Thus being enough space and monthly bandwith in order to accomodate a growing community, for a cheap price and not compromising loss of member(s) or service.

I only honestly can't see any divide happening regardless of anything. People still will use the same discussions etc. I can't see people leaving because a few people get a few extra privileges either!
The extra privileges would only be as a thank you for contributing but if your all happy just contributing regardless then that's fine. AGAIN it's just something to discuss... no need to get all shirty about it!
EDIT: I would just like to point out this would be entirely voluntary and you would be by no means pressured into donating anything! I can't understand what the problem is, it's not like saying you have to pay to get full access to the site.

I think we are all aware that nothing in this life is free.
My own view on this suggestion is a positive one. i am sincerely grateful to Wiitalk and its members for such an entertaining forum. So much so, that I would be willing to make a donation should this feature arise.
I can see where the issue is with the ' extra privlidges ' part of it can cause upset however and this is my negative vibe on it. Put yourself in the shoes of a new user or a 'google' customer. You stumble upon this forum, browse a few posts and realize that 'yes, I want to join this community'. Just before you sign up, you see there is no sign up fee but some members have made a donation to the forum and have received >> insert suggested gift << for their generosity. Although the new member can access the site, he/she may feel alienated and encouraged to donate to share the spoils that 'I have donated to Wiitalk' sloganized T-shirt wearers have.
My suggestion is this, have a donate button but do not offer extra 'goodies' for this option, nor make it visible to see who has donated. If you keep it anonymous you avoid the aformentioned situation.
These are just my thoughts though. As I have said, I'm grateful to everything this forum and cummunity has given me over the past 6 months and look forward to many more months to come. If donating something is there, I wouldnt hestitate to give something back.

What you are suggesting is creating a VIP area on the site for those who have financially contributed towards the Bronco Empire (to use an expression bandied about earlier) and also marking them out from 'normal' members as a 'thank you'. The 'custom user title' function of the forum could be activated for all users with a simple mouse click in the admin panel.. .. .. to offer the right to 'privileged' individuals smacks of extortion and profiteering.
The private area of the forum. What do you suppose would get discussed in there? Am I the only person who looks at their UserCP for subscribed conversations and then 'todays posts' for new topics? IMO a 'private area' will increase bandwidth of the forum as topics are duplicated for VIPs and 'normal' members.. .. ..
But hey, as you say, it's only an idea.. .. ..

Yeah quite right captain these are all only suggestions so far. Nothing is definite by any means and all these views are very welcome.
Keep 'em coming people!

Personally, I don't mind giving a little donation as long as its kept anonnonononymous. I also wouldn't mind with helping with the time aspect of running the site- as previously mentioned deleting (or highlighting for deletion) old threads and composing any interesting bits of said threads into a compact form. Eg introduction threads surely can be deleted after 1month...
