Possibly, but making it a set amount might put people off. I'd much prefer to give what I felt was appropriate/could afford.
Thank you monkey, this is the kind of thing i was after. A donation box could be a good idea yes, however if we were to offer contribution bonuses etc still then it would difficult to have people offering different amounts and only getting the same as someone who payed say £1 instead of £5. Your suggestion will be taken into consideration, thank you.

From the few that have posted on here, nobody seems bothered about deviding up people by how much they contribute, creating factions amoungst the communinty etc etc
But WiiTalk isnt a business at all. Its a community set up in order to aid and provide a place for people with the Wii console.
Before setting up any type of business or community, you should realise the costs and on-going costs to keep it running, and as i mentioned earlier, if the expansion onto a new server arises, then you should consider pruneing the forums for more space to be begin with.
I would be more likely to donate money if you put a donation button up, rarthur than as mojo mentioned, dividing the members up which in effect is what will happen and i dont agree with that at all.
I really don't see dividing members up as a problem in the slightest. I personally don't see this happening on this site at all. The members here are friendly and considerate, i don't see why one person donating some money to the site and getting a few extra features as a reason to get all hot and bothered about.
Yes kandi WiiTalk is a business. Bronco owns a network of similar sites which make up his little "empire" shall we say. You will no doubt be contributing to more than just servers by donating.

I agree, it's not the kind of community to be bothered by any of those problems.

Shame its got to come down to this over money. When you mention this little empire, are you suggesting that not all the money donated would be beneficial to this site, but would be spread around other sites in the empire?
My bad yoshi - what I meant was that no one seems to want extra features for donating. Just put a little box on the homepage and be happy with what you get - more features I'd imagine = more server space taken up anyway

Reason: So as not to double post!
Personally, I would fully support a donation button, and would give a sum of my own discression on a weekly or monthly basis.
I would not support a subscription or set fee though.
At least you are getting an idea of people's opinions with this thread. I hope no one is upset by the suggestions made though, as you have to air ideas to find a solution.
