As the site grows we'll need more server space etc etc and therefore more money will be needed to run the site so inevitably more ads and such will need to be used to get this money. Contributions would lessen the need to use ads on the site.

As i have said before it's a work in progress and any suggestions you might have as to make the contribution feature more worthwhile would be very useful.
Hmmm, you talk about upkeep of the site and also server space on expansion of the WiiTalk forum... why do you not prune seperate forums in order to make more space... I fail to see how you would need a contribution thou as i know, my company is able to offer 5GB of Website Space + 15GB of Bandwith. Now, if a forum cannot stay within those limits, then you seriously need to look at cutting down on membership signups, clearing inactive members and posts..

I use this site a lot , and contributing a small sum to help with its upkeep is something I would consider but I disagree with the idea of a contribution buying you the right to a private forum or custom names etc as I feel this would create a divide between (for want of a better word) premium members and those which do not want to make contributions .

I have to agree with <mojo> on this one. Why not put up a donation button or something. I'd be much more likely to contribute to that than a paid subscription.

As I said, I'd quite happily help to 'prune' (what a lovely word, +rep) the older posts to help out.

Therefore Kandi you should realise that this website is a business and all business's need customers to survive. This is very similar to using free apps off the internet and contributing to their development with a small donation.

That's all i'm talking about here. I obviously worded it incorrectly! Apologies.

It would more than likely be a set fee which we have not decided on yet but it won't be very much at all.

Perhaps a donation box is the way forward then. I don't mind sending some people Vc games for their birthday for example, but if I had to or felt like I was missing out by not doing, I wouldn't be so keen.

Possibly, but making it a set amount might put people off. I'd much prefer to give what I felt was appropriate/could afford.

Again as i have mentioned this is not the final product merely a discussion as to what could be included and what people opinions are of the idea.

But WiiTalk isnt a business at all. Its a community set up in order to aid and provide a place for people with the Wii console.

Before setting up any type of business or community, you should realise the costs and on-going costs to keep it running, and as i mentioned earlier, if the expansion onto a new server arises, then you should consider pruneing the forums for more space to be begin with.

I would be more likely to donate money if you put a donation button up, rarthur than as mojo mentioned, dividing the members up which in effect is what will happen and i dont agree with that at all.
