Nintendo's wonder console is about to squash a new record, being the first console that reaches an install base of 20 million before the "two-years-on-the-market" period.
It took PlayStation 2 more than 5 years (5 years and 9 months, to be exact) to reach 100 million owners, but Wii is much faster in this race. A simple calculus shows that in approximately 2100 days- the period between March 4, 2000 (when PS2 was launched) and November 19, 2005 (when the console reached an install base of 100 million)- an average of about 47,600 PS2s were sold every single day.
