Wii and DS sales continue to soar!
NPD Data for the month of December has been released and once again the DS and Wii take the number 1 and 2 spots respectively.
The DS sold nearly 2.5 Million systems... That's an incredible amount for a 30-day period! No doubt that the Wii could've matched or even beat that if the supply had met the demand, but instead it's in at number 2 with 1.4 Million sold.

Slightly OT.. .. .. .. how come Sony are still manufacturing the PS2 a year after they released the PS3? Why aren't they trying to upsell to potential customers to improve PS3 sales?
DS still outselling the Wii.. .. .. .. (will xmas supply issues hit January sales figures?)

If it's still selling over a million Units in a month, then it's a great source of income while the PS3 tries to get over a shaky start. A massive selection of games at a cheap price will also be very appealing to many families.

This is for the whole month and the weekly chart is only last week. I imagine a lot of people got Galaxy for Xmas. Since then, stock of Big Brain Academy and Wii Play have appeared and been sold almost instantly!

Update! (apologies for digging it up but it saves making a new thread )

Nintendo has just released its financial results from this year's first quarter (April - June) and has surprised nobody by revealing its making truckloads of money.
Advertisement:
The company's quarterly profit rose by 31.5 percent since last year, from 90.63 billion yen a year earlier to 119.19 billion yen. That's roughly 500 million pounds.
Sales of the Wii have jumped by 51 percent since Q1 2007 to 5.17 million units since April. In the same quarter, PS3 sales reached 1.56 million units and Xbox 360 shipments hit 1.3 million units.
In fact, the only dark cloud in Nintendo's report reflected the slow-down for DS demand. Sales dropped from 6.98 million to 6.94 million. 40,000 people is hardly something to get worked up over, though. Maybe it's because almost everybody on the planet now has one, or at least has access to one.
Predictably shares in Nintendo have gone up since the announcement. With a market value of $76 billion, Nintendo's value is now twice that of Sony's say Reuters.
Although this month Sony also reported that their computer entertainment division had their first profitable financial quarter since the release of the PS3, so perhaps competition from Sony will increase in line with 'greater' availability of funds.
