What it might be worth while doing is copying the contents of the SD card to your PC, formating the SD Card on the PC and then try and see if it is recognised on your Wii.

Its possible that your Wii may have a problem so a quick call to Nintendo may be in order.

Hi,
I have a 2GB mini-SD card from mobymemory. Currently I use it in my phone (MDA Vario) but have also used it in a card reader. No problems.
I put it in an adapter and then into the Wii and I get an error message saying the Wii can't access the SD card.
I've tried a friend's regular SD card in my Wii and it worked fine.

I want to buy a new 2GB card for my Wii but wanted a mini one so I'd have the option of sharing it with my phone (the other card is getting quite full). Does anyone else use a mini-sd card with their Wii? If so what brand is it?

If you are having problems reading a mini-SD card with an adaptor then it is most likely that the issue is down to your adaptor.

Make sure there is no fluff or dust etc. between the mini-SD card and adaptor that may be preventing the contacts from being 100% and that may solve your issue.

Thanks I'll check tonight. I don't think there was any fluff as I haven't used the adapter before.
When you have MP3s on an SD card, do you have to put them in a specific directory or does the Wii just scan the whole card?

Not every card reader will read every card. It is heavily dependant on if the manufacturer of the card meets all of the standards for SD cards, for example I used to work for a computer company who's card reader would not read nokia cards because nokias cards don't exactly follow the standards.

Best thing to do is use trial and error and if a card doesn't work send it back.. best bet though is stick to named brand cards as these are more likely to work, even 1-2 gig sand disks sd cards are dirt cheap now, I think you can get 1 gig ones for aroun 10-15 quid

Anybody tested the speed of these £10 SD cards in their Wii?

I did a test and copied everything stored on my internal memory onto the SD card (a Bytestore 80x 1Gb) and it took flippin ages. In one test I copied the data from the Internet Channel (Browser, duh!) which turned out to be <32mb, and it took over 5 minutes to copy!!! The same data took about 5 seconds to copy off the card onto my Mac.

I did think that maybe the data encryption that is done to lock data to a particular Wii is done in the copying process to/from the SD-Card. It could be this process thats slowing everything down?

PM me if you add me, I will reciprocate

Well I found a old 256 MB mini-sd card and that worked fine. I guess my 2 GB mini-SD card is just not compatible with my Wii. Dumb un-branded makes!

Still playing Excite Truck with my own music. So so much better! I mean it's a fantastic game anyway but this just adds so much more

I'll be ordering a 2 GB SD card soon probably.
