Default Are There Too Many Mini-Game Games? (4th October 2007)

At the moment there are a lot of people complaining that there are too many mini-game style games out there for the Wii and not enough first person shoot 'em ups being released.

With games like Carnival Games on its way there are going to be even more mini-game games on their way!

But is this a bad thing? Microsoft has its hand firmly on the FPS type of games on it 360 consoles and the PlayStation (1, 2 & 3) have great detailed graphics that the racing gamer can enjoy the likes of Gran Turismo and Need For Speed games on.

It is only Nintendo that has taken the mini-game style games in to its arms and made that style of game something you would associate with a Nintendo console.

A lot of PlayStation consoles are hidden upstairs in bedrooms where perhaps one or two people will be playing on them at a time and the same kind of goes with the 360 - with a few people having them in their front rooms.

How many Nintendo’s Wiis are in peoples bedrooms? Not as many as the other consoles - certainly this is what I have found in my own experiences. The Nintendo Wii console tends to be found connected to the communal TV set in the main room of the house. Why is this? Simply because it caters for more than one type of gamer.

Yes, there are a lot of mini-game games out there on the Wii but there are also a lot of FPS and even car racing games too!

Unlike other consoles like the 360 which are mainly aimed at the hard-core gamer, the Nintendo Wii is aimed at everyone - gamers and non-gamers alike!

Thanks to the FPS games, hard-core gamers have given it a go, thanks to Wii Sports even silver-games (older people ) in residential homes are even playing on them and thanks to the mini-game style games lots of non-gamers and whole families have been attracted to the Wii.

It is because of the Wii not necessarily concentrating on one particular type of gamer that it has become attractive to all sorts of people!

Female gamers who have never even thought of getting a PlayStation or 360 are now getting in on the gaming scene thanks to the Nintendo Wii and the unique controllers and mini-game games making gaming fun!

Whole families are getting in on the gaming scenes as the 'old fogies' can play bowling with the kids on a fairly level footing (although 4-6 year olds tend to be the best at this game). With games like Mario Party 8 the whole family can enjoy a great gaming experience together at the same time which is something that hasn't really happened with other consoles.

So, in conclusion, yes there are a lot of mini-games but there are also a lot of the other types of games too. As the Nintendo Wii is catering for everyone there won’t be a mad influx of similar games all the time that we have been used to. New and innovative games are more likely to turn up - look at Wii Fitness for example to see what I mean.

You should have entered the blog competition with that

Seriously tho, great blog.

I totally agree that out of all the consoles I have ever owned, the Wii is the only one ever to grace the main TV of the household - for the eaxct reason you mentioned.

I also agree with your comments that the Wii caters for all types of gamers. There does seem to be a lot of 'minigames' around for the Wii, but there is a good selection of 'alternative' games on the horizon too.

And have two blogs to write! Mind you I could have entered under a different login name to see what happened... A bit like Charlie Chaplin who entered a Charlie Chaplin look-a-like competition and came third!
