Console bashing seems to be on the increase on the net with more and more people being anti-Nintendo, anti-360 or anti-Sony/PS3 for no real reason whatsoever.
There are plenty of different consoles, for plenty of different people –we all have our preferred console and we seem to defend it until the cows come home!
But that is no excuse (in my humble opinion), for slagging of other consoles (and their owners) simply because it is a competitor to the one you have. Not everyone is going to like the PS3 or 360 for example, but then not everyone likes the Wii!
Thankfully WiiTalk tends to be different with very little (if any) console bashing going on. If you don’t like a particular console (for whatever reason) then that’s fine, console bashing is when you take it to the next step and start being rude and nasty. :(
The Wii is unique in the respect that not only does it work well on its own, but it actually compliments other consoles - like we are finding with a lot of 360 owners who have both the 360 and the Wii.
In my opinion the Wii is not really for solitary play, that’s what the likes of the PS2/GC/PSP are for. If you want multiplayer games with fantastic graphics then the 360 is for you. If you have more money than sense then the PS3 is for you (personally I think £425 for a console is far too much money even though the spec is so great) and if you actually have some ‘real’ friends (not just virtual ones you meet up on line with) then the Wii is for you!!!
Different consoles, for different people - there is enough room in this world for all of us.
It is part of human nature, and ingrained in our evolution, that we form groups and compete against other groups. You can see this in football supporters, in political parties, religion, war and even games consoles! So trying to stop it is not realistic.
However, it is not all bad; Sony deserve some slating for the PS3, it's too expensive, it's late and it doesn't have backwards compatibility; Miicrosoft deserve slating for trying to kill Sony and Nintendo by making a huge loss on xboxes - it's not good for anyone if Microsoft make the console market untenable for Sony and Nintendo; and finally, Nintendo deserve a kick for ignoring online gaming.
I haven't been a gamer since the PS one originally came out - but I bought a wii. IMO, the only people thinking outside of the box are nintendo, the wii is a revolution, it's fresh and it is leaving Sony and Microsoft trailing...
There was a discussion on BBC's forums yesterday about the impending launch for a PS3. It started off with some console bashing, until a certain group of people decided to make it a "Consoles, they are for kids, and people on the dole, and serial killers" thread. Then, the joystick junkies, be it Wii, PS3, 360, whatever, united against the common enemy.
I've not been one for console bashing, but it showed me that, be it a PS3, Wii or 360 person, we're closer to each other than we care to admit
I think console bashing can be as much fun as the console its self!
It also gives us a chance to how what was left out of the consoles we have and what we'd like to see in them. As NPB2007 said, each console has it's own faults, but it's so much fun laughing at someone else (as the Wii has shown me many times!), even if that is another console!
I am not really into console bashing. Besides, it's only a game system and not that serious. I don't have a certain brand that I have to buy because I really all the systems but not the price.
The misperception with console bashing is that you need to always devote to one company.
Console bashing is dishing out dirt on anything you don't like about any system.
Fanboyism as well towards one product doesn't stop the person owning what he slags off. I'll bash the 360 because it has lots of breakdowns but I still own a 360.
