Nice bit of constructive criticism. Care to elaborate?
Well, I was asking you guys what you like actually. Y'know, so I could reply with my criticisms.
I don't really know where to begin with the problems I have with this game. Also, constructive criticism is impossible here unless you file all these posts to the game company which made this game.

Originality for one - I can't think of another RTS game where you control the troops from the battlefield and can take control of any unit you wish
Classic RTS Gameplay - The whole 'This unit is good against that unit, but bad against that unit' is a classic style that is well used here to make tactics a must!
Controls - Makes use the the Wii's controls without over-using them
Nice Graphics - Very smooth graphics with a nice cartoon edge to them
Online play - Any game that has online play gets extra marks in my book!
Just a few of the plus points for me

The graphics were the best bit about the game and I associated well with them. I relate it to advance wars in that sense. Advance wars being one of my favourite games I felt the need to buy this.
Now I understand this is a completely different game entirely.
Online play wasn't big scale enough at all. Feels like tiny skirmishs rather than a war. I have no problems with skirmishes, but after a while it tires. I found this game to tire quickly after having bought it.
Controls I thought were fine for the most part, then they added that pathetic little jump thing. Terrible idea. I remember there was an alternative to this, but it still irritated me.
That 'rock/paper/scissors' stuff was ok but I didn't really find the time to implement it properly. Again, too smaller scale. I just controlled whichever character was the most useful at that one point, and used that. That being said, most of the units control in an extremely boring manner. Tanks felt incredibly lackluster. Also, there is no retreat function, which in war, is a pretty large necessity.
Lastly the voice-work is downright awful in this game. People always menton the engrish but I just think they were poorly recorded, really low-fi, and rushed.
Overall I felt the game had the basis of a great game, and all the right ideas. They were implemented poorly, and it's a shame.

I'm surprised you're a fan of advance wars and you don't like this!
I'm aso an advance wars fan and played Dark Conflict before I got this. I think there are obviously a lot of similarities and having played advance wars, it gave me some idea of which units to use etc.
It sounds to me like you were expecitng/hoping for a much larger RTS with lots more units and a bigger playing field. I just don't see how that could work with Batallion wars, due to you being on the battlefield. The only way to control a whole army on a big map would be from afar in the birdseye perspective, which would just make BW another run of the mill RTS.
I'll agree that the Wii should have that kind of game as it's controls are almost identical to using a mouse, but for BW I think the action needs to be loacalised, otherwise you would have no idea what's happening on one side of the battlefield!
I don't see how a retreat option would help either? You have to destroy what's in front of you to progress, so the emphasis is on forward planning, not running away and coming back another day

Retreat is a pretty standerd defense maneuver. I mean, that's the problem. There is no strategy really. Just run and shoot stuff.
I think all I really wanted was a 3d fleshed out advance wars. I did not play the original Battalion Wars but I really thought it would be something other than what it is.
I have to agree - I enjoy this game but seriously guys, there's not really any strategy to it is there. Its a shoot em up with some very basic light RTS idea's slapped on top.
If you play it as a brainless shooter then you'll enjoy it, if your looking for depth and proper strategy then your gonna be disappointed.

I just thought the tone of your original post was taking a bit of a swipe at the people on this thread who actually like the game. Maybe I overreacted.
Anyway. I agree with FooFan about the main plus points for this game. It's an action strategy game that's not trying to be something it's not. I like the RTS side which gets you thinking tactically instead of going all gung ho and the action side where you can get involved and be in control of a unit yourself. I think if they tried to add a more in-depth RTS it would get far too complicated and you would have to lose the shoot 'em up action.
I agree that the game's not perfect and the controls can be a bit frustrating at times such as controlling fighters and when selecting individual units to follow specific commands . I really enjoy the online aspect of the game being able to play Skirmish, Assault and Co-op but agree that it's not comprehensive enough.
In the next installment I would like to see:
the ability to have at least 4 players online even if it is 2 v 2 co-op.
the option to play through the whole campaign online.
a split-screen 2 player offline mode.
