Fans of Resident Evil will be pleased to know that a new exclusive game is coming to Wii! No details at the mo but early assumptions include as either a RE5 port or a sequel to Umbrella Chronicles which would include Code Veronica.

The second one almost rules out the RE5 port assumption but its still possible.

Its such a shame, back in the days of the GameCube I fell in love with the Resi series, and played them all through to completion numerous times. I'm not bothered about Resi 5s ultra slick graphics, I just want another, new Resident Evil game, i.e a 3rd person shooter with zombies or equivalent. I don't want a poor person's time crisis.

Is that too much to ask?

Yes double M......I have a feeling that it is too much! Hopefully, there will be a Wii 2 coming soon - ish so I can get shot of the old one and get it.

thats not actually true ... they have just announced that there will be an announcement during the release of RE5 .... havent even mentioned the Wii

Its not your fault mate. Its just frustrating considering the amount of backing the Nintendo machine used to have for the Resident Evil franchise, and now on Wii it seems that thats all being ignored.

I've not played Umbrella Chronicles, but there's a good reason, irrespective of the franchise, I don't want that type of game, I want survival horror, not an on-rails shooter.

Heck I'd even take the slow door animations back if it meant a new Resi!

I'd like a game like a new Resident Evil 4 or 5 for the Wii. I've played Umberella Chronicles, and it is pretty good actually, but I want a "proper" Resi game now.

Didn't the posters above conclude that RE 4 & 5, ARE NOT proper Resident Evil games?
Resident Evil 4 was a good game, and I played it a lot. I even bought it for Wii as well, to be able to experience it with Wii Controls.
But this game is completely different then Re1 & 3, and code Veronica.
THOSE are proper Resident Evil games. The fact that you don't even have enough bullets to kill the zombies around you. The fact that you need to burn them or headshot them in order to get rid of them.
The scary times you have to endure, knowing that you are almost out of ammo/ink ribbon.. far away from a safe point and expecting a HARSH enemy every time soon! Haven't had this feeling in years now. Good old RE :(

Maybe time to fire up an RE classic again!?

I completely agree that Resi 4 was completely different to all Resi Evils that had gone before, but that was what Capcom wanted. The result is a truly epic game, that was much more about an action experience, where you were truly in the thick of it, rather than the suspense horror of previous titles.

Tbh I'm not bothered which style Capcom choose for the next Wii Resi Evil as long as it works as good game. Capcom did indeed take a risk with Resi 4 in that people could have reacted badly to the different direction the game took, but they passed with flying colours because the game was so good. Voted by many as game of the year, and arguably the best title released on the GameCube.

Umbrella Chronicles was (from reviews I have read and general opinion I have heard) not as revolutionary in its definition of the genre as Resi 4 and so suffers from being labelled as "too different" and "not true to the series", the very things ironically that Resi 4 was hailed a success for delivering.

So I suppose in essence I don't really care what they do with the series, but if they do make a drastic change, it needs to result in an epic game, otherwise it will be a failure. I suppose thats why people yearn for a return to the old Resi style - one it'll feel like Resi once again, and two, it'll almost certainly be done well as Capcom CAN DO great survival horror.

Indeed despite a yearning for innovation these days, there is safety in the old adage "if it aint broke, don't fix it".
