I think it's maybe a combination of what was mentioned earlier(that many of us will own GTA4 on PS360/PC already) AND Rockstar may want to keep a bit of distance between that, imo, masterpice(with uge leaps forward in game mechanics, graphics and sheer scope of the interactivity and any subsequent Wii release that may make the control scheme and less powerful visuals seem(formerly)gimmicky and(latterly)less woo shiny!
Imo, Wii lends itself towards more of the multi function gameplay of SA combined with the better shooting of GTA4(with more vehicle type and more/different ways to implement control of them). Besides then Rockstar would tap into both the Wii markets hoping for any GTA and those that missed the excesses of San Andreas in GTA4(a common moan-even if churlish given the quality and depth of GTA4). Maybe an all singing , all dancing version of Vice City(not a remake-just updated)may be just the ticket , but whatever, i think the game will come in some form but they'll want to put it at a tangent to the timeline of the main titles so far-and with the Wii having a different approach itself this could be a winning strategy. Lets face it Rockstar don't get much wrong and the cash is there just waiting to be taken so there is some inevitability even if Rockstar seem to protest too much.
Good points all round. I have never played GTA4 as i fall in the "one console" demographic but i agree that GTA Wii would need to be a 'side game' and not GTA 5.
I for one would be more than happy with a re-jig of either Vice City or San andreas, i just need my fix, lol!
I wouldnt buy a Wii because gta would be on it, i bought it for the multiplayer fun that you can have with it especially online and for the motion controller technology. If i would want to play a game like gta or gears of war id play on my xbox. The wii should stick to what it does best and is currently doing. Not spend time adapting games for it that are big htis on other consoles, thats what i think.

The 'Wii' doesn't spend time adapting to be ready for games a la GTA, nor do Nintendo has a whole, generally speaking. Having a GTA title can only be a positive, it's only going to generate more sales for the mature gamer and likewise I very much doubt it'd get mass media coverage and thus parents and the younger gamers wont be put off from buying a wii because of the title.
I'm more with you hardcastle. GTa and Wii would be a lucrative partnership and, as I pointed out, would have to differ from the main series to make the best of things for both parties to shine. So, not adaptation(though even if GTA4 is far better graphically than previous GTA's it still isn't a selling point)but merely a different relationship is needed between R* and Ninty over this one which gives undoubted GTA attitude and quality while best utilising the best Wii features(I.e the amazing contral schemes available).
I'm talking a million miles from ports or adaptations here(though done as well as Resi4 who'd complain?).
Yeah i got to agree, sorry Raiden. Far from trying to get the Wii to be something it isn't. In my view i'd be happy to see any game come over to Wii if it made use of what the Wii currently has. In fact, i'd say the ability to play games like MKWii don't use any of the Wii's true features at all, deffinately nothing that you wouldn't find on other platforms.
If we took GTA and made use of the controls that the Wii has to offer, thats more that GTA is trying to adapt rather than the Wii trying to adapt.
What I do feel, after thinking this through while waiting for my Wii to return so I can finally play SSBB(returned safely to me today and Nintendo even rang to ask if it was fine!), is that whatever has been said the size of the market here will be the deciding factor. Fair enough Rockstar have been bitten before with poor versions of games carrying the GTA logo(top down 2d rubbish at that on handhelds)but the Wii has such a big market that the deal is inevitable, money will talk and I guess(as Rockstar are a pretty talented dev team)they might be worried about how they implement the same quality onto wii's schematics-but it'll happen, and be done well.
