According to a post on RandomNewz, Square Enix are currently working a port/remake of a Final Fantasy game for the Nintendo Wii.

Turns out there is some truth in this.
Square Enix did a press release back in may stating that they would be releasing FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES: Crystal Bearers™ on Wii.

So..

The crystal chronicles game was confirmed yonks ago. CC is pretty much an exclusive nintendo FF series. As for remakes, squeenix are currently remaking the entire series for the DS. then they are going to release a series of prequels and sequels for each installment, none of them straight RPGS, across multiple formats. They'll also make a few crappy over the top CGI sequels. Then they'll milk FF7 a bit more by making FF7 sports games, FF7-2, FF7-3, FF73+1.4 & FF7-minus2. Then hopefully they'll roll over and die and stop making sub par games, and leave me with my memories of the good old PS1 days. yes I said PS1, not SNES.

Their one saving grace right now is what they're doing for the DS.

I pretty much agree Hughjass...

I am loving the DS remakes of the older games but I am tired of them milking FFVII without actually remaking it.

All of the spin-off's (including the film) have been pure crap. They claim they don't want to remake FFVII as they want to do something different; but how is milking the name doing that exactly?

I just want a PS3 or DS remake of FF7 then I want them to let that game go... it is a very very good game but with each sub-par spin-off; they ruin the original even more

yep, I loved the FF7 ending because it had closure, but also left enough open to keep you wondering. Those are the best endings, you don't want everything answered for. With stuff left open, it leaves you to fill in the gaps, and that helps you relate to and feel closer to the story.

I mean, that's why the silent hill games are (were?) so good. And why Donnie darko, once & the blair witch project were so good. There are plenty of examples.
