Personally, I'm finding the whole argument of 'oh, the 360 and PS3 are all about graphics and not innovation' to be wearing a little thin. The consoles are what the games make them. There is just as much innovation going on and movements forward with the 360 and ps3, aside from the better graphics. The 360 and PS3 make far more advancements in gaming than the wii does. All the wii throws into the mix is the controller. The movement forward with the wii is the controller and the marketing schemes.
I have yet to see any games that are truly amazing on the wii, aside from a few of nintendo's own games. The wiimote really is not all that revolutionary, all its done so far is replace button presses with remote waggles. What would be revolutionary would be for games to use the remote in a way that your movements were detected in real time, now that would be something normal controllers could not do. So far all we've really got is movements from the remote that triggers a pre-programmed action, which is nothing a normal controller cant already do with button presses.
Now I love nintendo, they make great games. But the wii has been a disappointment for me. Its a great console but it just seems like it could've been so much more.
Hughjass I agree to some extent... I think there are gameplay advancements on the ps3 / 360 hence why I defended gears of war; I think the refined cover system was great and active reloading (though simple) was a beautiful addition, it is essentially a game within a game which is great...
And the online is so tactical especially with voice chat in tourney matches (not random kids hollering over voice chat)...
hell console voice chat is awesome as well and something the Wii could benefit on in SOME games.
But I think the *waggle* tackiness of the controller is down to your interpretation of it... If you see it simply as something to waggle then it is... but take MK - Wii... It has been the most successful use of the controller to date and the steering wheel is MUCH better than any one that has come before it (especially for the price).
I guess you are supposed to feel more proud with those *pre-set* animations because you evoked them differently...
Let us not forget Wii-fit btw... the balance board opens up a lot of options imo... (though I am not keen on the look of it atm; it really does have a lot of potential)

Well - I guess you can empathise with them really. If they're all about graphics (which apparently they are) then it seems sensible to avoid the wii, however there's still no point in saying that as the wii is the most dominant console ever...
Who are Epic Games? Just looked at their website (which is ****) and while the handful of games listed have been very successful it's hardly a huge portfolio.

I'm not saying that all the motion does it run pre-scripted actions, there are plenty of real time uses, and plenty of innovative ones either way. I just feel that it's really not being used effectively in most cases.
And the wiimote is the only new thing really with the wii. Take away the controller and you're left with a console - while it's not a bad one - that is underpowered and inferior in almost every way to the other two. All the other stuff it does, honestly, the other consoles do better.
I still enjoy playing my wii every now and then, but once the initial excitement wore off I wasn't left with much.
It is really strange Hughjass as I was an extreme / tourney gamer for years but since the Wii I have started enjoying games a lot more again...
I am not being a 'fanboy' - I have a 360 and a ps2 (as well as a xbox, PS, dreamcast and gaming pc) but I just seem to prefer my Wii more and more these days...
I still think calling it a *virus* is a little below the belt though... Just goes to show what happens when you shake up the industry

Honestly, you're the one who's being out of line here. The guy has a right to his own opinion. Just because he doesn't like the wii doesn't give you the right to call him a 'condescending tw@t'. Well it's good the wii has made you enjoy games again. I hardly play mine now, but I still love going on mario galaxy now and then, or having a crack at some of the puzzles on zack and wiki. I'm glad I own a wii, but I just think it cuold be so much more and is just relying on it's gimmicks to sell. It's far more than a gimmick, but nintendo aren't painting it that way with their marketing.

Having an opinion is fine... but he is a potentially influential person in an age where people will follow the media over the edge. If he doesn't like the Wii that is fair enough but again; taking an active stance against it is just being childish imo.
He could have simply said "we have no plans to develop on that console at this current time" It is the same message and opinion but just politer and less likely to cause others to follow.
