Default Is the HD AV cable worth it?

Hi,

I just wasted £38 on an HDMI cable for my PS3 and was wondering whether it is worth spending £15 on an HD AV cable for a wii.

Poll attached

Cheers,

Tony

I'm surprised that you are disappointed with the HD output from the PS3!

What size is your TV? Set up correctly, this should look mind-blowing, but obviously it gets better as the screen size gets bigger.

As far as the Wii is concerned, it isn't actually High Def at all.

The component lead will give you 480 progressive output, which is one notch up from the 480 interlaced output that you get from the standard RGB SCART.

If your TV is smaller than say 32", you may be happy with just the RGB SCART, but that costs around the same price anyway, so in your case, I would recommend the component.

Either way, don't just use the composite lead that came with the Wii, as this is a very inferior picture to either the component or RGB SCART.

Hope that helps.

HD on the PS3 is amazing the point is that I bought a £40 HDMI cable when a £10 one would have done the trick according to the people over at avforums.

I don't want to spend £15 on a HD wii cable that makes no difference. I have a 40" Sony HD TV, so your advice is to buy one.

I'll report back with some screenshots if I can get decent photos of the sceen

Cheers,

Tony

definately get the Component cable if your using an HDTV, The difference on my 32" screen when I switch over to Component and 480p was significant.

best £9.99 I ever spent (using the Joytec Wii component lead) found here: http://www.play.com/Games/Wii/4-/343...e/Product.html

Let us know how things turn out.

Ah, I see. Yes I am one for always buying the cheapest available option that looks good enough quality!

Yes, definitely get a Wii component lead then. It won't look anywhere near as good as your PS3 does, but it will improve the picture significantly.

Well I finally got round to buying one of these EDTV cables and to be honest I can't see much difference, perhaps I need to go to the optician. Anyway, as promised I have posted some photos here of my Wii, although I don't think they help much

Cheers,

Tony

I think it is worth it for the xbox as you would get a 720 resolution which is a really noticeable improvement. With the wii I am not so sure.

It's definitely sharper, but not as much as I experience on my Bravia. I use the official component cable, I'd put money on it being worth the extra few pounds.

Sorry for double posting but decided to do my own experiment. I have uploaded my own pictures comparing the composite to the official component. You'll agree that there is a significant improvement I hope.
