Default Question from new Wii owner

Ok, so I finally found a Wii after weeks of looking and then even managed to find another remote.

So, my question is - Can I play Gamecube games and downloaded games using just the wii remote and nunchuks, or do I need to buy a classic controller to be able to play these games?

You'll probably need the gamecube contollers for any Gamecube games - I've downloaded a few retro games - r-type, gunstar heroes and street fighter - they all work using just the remote, but apparently its "more receptive" if you use the new classic contoller..

It depends which games you plan to download!

It seems that most of the best ones do require a classic controller or at least an official Ninty Gamecube controller.

By the way Streetfighter WONT work with just the Wiimote.

Cheers, so just to clarify, if I buy a GC controller there's no need to buy the classic one as well, as I'll be able to play GC and downloaded games with it?

Alternatively, does it work the other way around, can I play GC games with the classic controller?

Most shops like Game or Gamestation (particularly the latter) have a surplus of Pre-Owned GC controllers that usually sell fro around £2 or so.
Failing that, check in a local CEX store or even ebay.
Finally, I noticed that on the Store, each game has icons denoting which controllers are required to play the games, be it Classic or GC so this should tell you before you make a purchase

Sadly, no, the classic controller doesn't work with Gamecube games.
