Thumbs up ***Wii Set-Up FAQ Thread***

Hi all. Foo said he would make this a sticky thread for me. To avoid numerous posts about component hook up or HD hook up or SCART or any other questions about setting up your Wii, let's try to discuss those problems in this thread. Hopefully we can eliminate having 4 different threads about component cables from here on out. Thanks all!

Happy posting!

Wii Online Questions

FAQ : How do I connect my Wii to the Internet?
Answer : Check out this site for step-by-step instructions: Nintendo Wii:*Complete Step-by-Step connection guide

FAQ : I'm thinking of buying a wireless router to enable my Wii to go online . Which one should I get?
Answer : For a list of known compatible and non compatible routers , visit this thread

FAQ : How do I set connect my Wii to my Wireless Router?
Answer : Enter wii settings by clicking the "Wii" icon at the bottom of the menu screen .

Choose
- Internet
- Wireless Connection
- Search for access point

Then choose your access point and enter the passcode if prompted . This code should be found either written on your router or in the router settings

FAQ : Where do I find my friend code?
Answer :For your Wii's friend code (used so you can send games and messages to other Wiis) go to the message board, address book and your number will be there. To add someone, click on an empty slot in your address book (page 2 onwards) and follow the on screen instructions.

For game codes, check the instruction book as each is in a slightly different place

FAQ : Does it matter what brand of component cable I use for my Wii?
Answer : I have tried 3 different cables and ended up with the Nintendo brand.

FAQ : Does it matter if my sensor bar is above or below my TV?
Answer : The sensor bar should be as even with the "playing field" as posible, so as to give you the most accuracy for the wiimote. Of course this is all in relation to where your TV is set up. Just make sure that in the Wii 'Settings' the Sensor Bar position is set to where it actually is.

Wii Remote Questions

Answer : Wiimote charger: Get one. Save you a fortune on batteries. Search the forum for discussions on which is best for your needs.

Foo, can you add something like "How to questions" to the title then.

I have a 360 controller with a cable on it, retro!

How's that?

And I think it might be an idea to have some of the most commonly answered questions in the first post

No, No, No. You need to have them all in the very first post, in fact everything needs to be in the very first post

Everything related to the setting up, to the connecting of the Wii, to the playing of the games!

FAQ : Does it matter if my sensor bar is above or below my TV?

Answer : I personally like the sensor bar to be as even with the "playing field" as posible, so as to give you the most accuracy for the wiimote. Of course this is all in relation to where your TV is set up.

Also, you cant put "in my opinion" or "i personally". It has to be neutral

Wii to TV cables:

Standard - does exactly what it says on the tin

RGB - the best one available, only use if your tv has the right inputs (not the red/white/yellow one, thats componant)

Wiimote charger: Get one. Save you a fortune on batteries. Search the forum for discussions on which is best for your needs.
Wiimote Jackets - use them. Surprisingly nice in all areas. Only annoying if you have a wiimote charger docking station.

*grins* stuff like that you mean?

Yeah good idea

But it's a long way off being a complete FAQ currently, so keep those questions coming people!
