I dont think you can have your pc and wii lan adapter wired up to the modem at the same time. I could be wrong though...

Do you have a wifi router as well?
If you have a router, the wii will already connect wirelessly to that.

If not, you can connect via the LAN adapter by running an ethernet lead between that and your modem.....but then that's all you'd connect, your desktop would have no place to plug into :(

Lan adapter = £20 from here

Alternatively buy this router for £27 ...connect your modem to that and hey presto....your whole house can go wireless.

How many ethernet ports does your router have. I find it hard to believe they make routers with only one port, considering they are made to connect multiple computers.

Don't think they've got a router, hence the problem.

So do I .

As I said

Stellarob
This is the back of a typical modem.

That blue port is the ethernet port.
You have your modem plugged into the coaxial cable ntl/virgin lead (?coming out of your wall) via the long silver port on the right of the piccie.

Now, instead of plugging the modem into your pc via an ethernet cable or a usb cable, plug the modem (via ethernet cable coming from this blue port) into the WAN port of the buffalo airstation.
So you have:
coax ntl cable ------>modem

and

blue modem ethernet port ----(via ethernet cable)---->WAN port on Buffalo

Now you have a few options.

A) Connect your desktop pc to the airstation via another ethernet cable going into one of the buffalo's LAN ports (everything else will connect to the buffalo via wifi) ****PREFERRED OPTION****

Your desktop (if already connected to the modem directly via an ethernet cable) will now be using the same port to connect to the buffalo LAN instead.
So, in addition to the above....

LAN port on Buffalo ----(via another ethernet cable)---->LAN port on desktop PC

B) OR Your desktop pc connects to the modem via usb so you can continue with the pc connected via usb directly into the modem (less preferred)
So....

Modem------(via USB)------>PC (ie. as normal)
\
\---------(via blue port to WAN port using ethernet cable)----->Buffalo

C)OR Your desktop pc has a built in wifi card so it (along with everything else) connects to the buffalo via wifi anyway (need to check if your PC has built in wifi)

Sorry, this is maybe a bit too confusing.....you need to check how you connect the pc to the modem (or what your desktop has installed) to decide how to hook up the buffalo (ie via usb or ethernet or wifi)

PS no matter how you connect your desktop, your wii only "sees" the buffalo.....wirelessly....so it doesn't matter that the wii may be in another room. The wii doesn't require your desktop at all, the only reason to tell you about how to hook up the desktop is that without this info, your pc won't be connected to the internet, so you won't be able to use that desktop for surfing.

so if i get a buffalo wireless then i need no additional components for the Wii to connect?

Would it be possible to run the computer off the USB port on the cable modem and the wii on the port at the same time?

sorry for asking so much questions im just trying to figure out the best/cheapest way to set up my wiinet.
