Unhappy Is my Wii stealing my bandwidth??

I have noticed over the last few weeks that some thing is killing my bandwidth after a bit of trial and error i think i have found the problem my wii :( :( after i unplug the power from my wii my internet seems to go fine.

i have a linksys wireless router with 2 pc's and xbox 360 wired to it and my laptop and wii are the only things that use the wireless. i am not moving alot of large files around the network. i have mac filtering on my router so only my hardware can use it, also i have double check to make sure there arnt any sneaky neighbor's using my wireless. is there any one else having this problem or is some thing i could do that could fix this.

I've had my Wii running on WC24 for a couple of months now and not noticed any great bandwidth loss. I'm using a BT Voyager 2110 router after dumping my Linksys - that router was nothing but trouble :(

These 2 utilities may be a little over the top but they log traffic through your router, so you can see where all your bandwidth is going:

Paessler | PRTG Bandwidth Meter Software | Network Bandwidth Monitoring, Freeware Version Available.

Welcome to Link Logger

I haven't used either but they might help...

I've got a linsys router, with 2 laptops, a desktop, and my Wii connected and I've not noticed any bandwidth problems.

Default Same here.

I have almost the same situation as you; three PCs connected (no 360 though) and a wireless router.

My router is an Efficient Networks - Speedstream 6300 from Bell Sympatico (ISP) with static IP and WEP encryption. One computer is running XP (server for the network, kinda) and then there's one laptop with XP and one running Vista. They are not able to fileshare between Vista and XP computers because I haven't installed the patch yet.

Man...I was on Frostwire with the laptop when I set up the wireless connection for the Wii and everything came to a grinding halt! I ended up having to turn the Wii off completely just to be able to use internet at a reasonable speed again. When the Wii is off the network speed is fine still, but while it's updating or even just on...forget it.

I still have not been able to do the update either! Even as I type it's updating but only at about 10% after 15 minutes. Usually the bar makes it all the way to the end but it never ends up being a successful update.
I repeatedly get "Error Code: 32004 An error has occurred. Unable to perform the Wii system update. Visit support.nintendo.com for assistance."

I haven't had time to check that site out yet, but will do so now.

good luck

Little update minutes later...my network is on channel 6 because it's the only channel that doesn't result in my laptops dropping the F'ing connection every 30-60 seconds, but nintendo recommends channel 1 or 11 for the Wii. Oh well, might have to plug it directly into the router just to update and then just learn to live with the slower channel 6 Wii connection, because there's no way I'm going through that hell with the laptops disconnecting again!

Prehaps its the router? I mean, my router sucks and i've got 1 wired computer a computer on wireless and the wii on wireless... and even before the wii it used to just lock up and stop giving any internet (i found it was the router after a little investigation). I've still got the crappy router because i have no choice as its in a contract for 12 months, but as soon as 12 months pass hopefully i'll be getting a decent router that can actually handle things connecting to it...

Not saying you've got the same problem but it is likely. All the connections just overload your router...

I couldn't imagine the wii stealing much bandwidth as it doesn't use alot of it to do anything, when it updates, yes its downloading, when its turned on it probably sends a message out to say ooo look im here to the router... but nothing more until you play a game or anything...

But i could be completely wrong...
