Default Overheating?
Has anyone else noticed that the left side of their wii gets quite hot while the unit is in standby? (In particular, the top back left corner)

I hear that it'll stop if you turn off Connect24

The unit also seems to cool down if you turn it on! (perhaps future firmware upgrades would allow the fan to spin for a few minutes every now and again, as is the case in some notebook computers?)

I also noticed this! The left hand side gets quite warm until you turn it on when it then cools down!

What I do now is simply turn it off at the wall so the components stay cool when I'm not using it.

As Ashy said - if you switch off wii connect 24 then it wont get warm so theres no need to switch it off at the wall.

You just need to switch off "standby connection".

Basically, "Wii Connect 24" allows the Wii to recieve the information in the background from the Wii full-stop.
Turn this off if you don't want to recieve any updates at all.

In addition to this, if you have WC24 switched on, "Standby Connection" determines when you want to recieve information.
So if this is turned on, the wii will recieve stuff even when it is on standby (ie when the light is orange).
If this is turned off, WC24 will only be active when you're using the Wii (ie when the light is green); and when not being used, the WC24 won't be active at all (ie when the light is red).
