Default GC controller vs Classic controller

hello guys

im fairly new around here and done alot of reading over the last few days. sorry if it has been covered however i know you need a GC controller to play GC games but can i use it with wii titles that need the classic controller.

my misses bought the wii and i think its great, but buying extra and different controllers is getting very expensive and limits the amount of games we can afford.

thanks for your help

The back of the game box will tell you if you can use it with a GC controller e.g MKWii or SSBB. Not many Wii titles support the GC controller I'm afraid.

I take it you mean the Virtual Console (VC) games since I'm not really aware of any new Wii titles which require the classic controller. In this case most VC games can be played with either a wiimote or a GC controller, but all can definitely be played using a classic controller. Personally I have 4 GC controllers and 4 classic controllers but I use the classic controllers for the VC games and the GC controllers for GC games only.

You can check whether or not you can use a GC controller or a wiimote on the game screen in the Wii shop channel before you download it. That way you will know whether or not you can use a combination of controllers you currently own to play them.

Wii Console: 4965 5071 3483 2610
MK Wii: 5069 4389 1715
Dr. Mario: 8977 0405 1533

also note that SNES games are nigh impossible with GC controllers (using the VC of course)

Thanks for the response. i just notice some games have the classic controller on the back of the cover (some fighting games) and wondered if i can use the GC controller, i have not been online yet. like i said its the misses console and i like to just turn on, play, and switch off.

my last console was dream cast as i was a Sega fan so i have had nothing since. i was thinking of getting the 360, but i dont see the need for 360, wii and my sons PS2. so i just want to get as many games for the wii as poss.

thanks

there's quite a few Sega Genesis (or Megadrive) games on the wii shop channel, you should check them out, best part: they use just the wiimote on it's side if you want them to

Just picked up my first two VC games, Mario 64 and Mario RPG. I have GC controllers. Should I get a classic for either of these two games?

N64 games work great in general with Gamecube controllers. SNES ones tend to require Classic Controllers, as the button placement is obscure and done on purpose by Nintendo, so people buy the classic controller and play the older styled games on them for a "retro" feel. N64 games arent quite "retro" at this moment in time, hence why Gamecube controllers are fine with them - especially since some games, such as Zelda OoT and Majora's Mask have already been worked on the cube controllers on the special edition zelda game disc. Though some SNES games are fine on Cube pads, such as F Zero and I think Mario RPG should be ok. F Zero only one button to accelorate, and Mario RPG isn't quite as fast paced adventure wise as Super Mario World and others. Super Mario World is odd to play with the button placement for the jumps.

Current adventure games to play and complete to as close to 100% as possible - Okami and Paper Mario 64.
VC games so far: Bonk's Revenge/ F-Zero/ Paper Mario 64/ Super Probotector, F Zero X, Mario World 3

Since my wavebird broke i have been using CC for games which allow GC/CC. IMO the GC is better just because i prefer the feeling and all that, but i sit far from the tv so i need my CC over my wired GC controllers :(. I wish they brought out a GC controller to plug into the bottom of a wiimote instead
