OK, I just got back from the store, having spent £20 on an official Wii RGB cable. Yes, the image quality is sharper, but there's something not right, here.
The colours all appear much duller. From what I've read, they're supposed to look brighter and stronger. Is this normal, or have I got a faulty cable?
The second problem is considerably bigger. Whenever
I leave the Wii console in Standby mode with WiiConnect24 enabled, the
video output on all other TV channels is disabled, showing only a black
screen with audio. I have tried disabling WiiConnect24, and it works
normally. However, this is an inconvenience, as I wish to leave
WiiConnect24 enabled.
Has anyone else had these problems, or have I just got a faulty cable? If others have had them, is there any way to fix them? I certainly don't think dull colours are normal for an RGB cable...
RGB will give you a much more natural image and, from my experiance, the saturation, colour and brightness controls on your TV are disabled when it recieves an RGB signal. So the picture will be set to a "correct" level of colour, saturation etc.
You may have had the colour and other settings on your TV up to high, which is why they now appear "duller" when set to the correct level using the RGB!
Also, using an RGB cable your Wii (or any other RGB equipment) will output an "activation" signal. This is why your TV will switch over to the correct channel when you turn on your wii etc. Unfortunatly, in a recent FW update, Nintendo altered the output on the Wii so that it emits this signal even in standby mode.
This has caused problems with me also! If i turn on my Sky+ then my TV will switch over to it for a second, then it will automatically switch itself back over to the wii's input!!!
I then have to sitch over to sky manually!
MY GAMES: Wii Sports, Zelda: TP, Blazing Angels, The Godfather, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil 4, Endless Ocean, Rock Star Presents: Table Tennis, Lego Star Wars, Resident Evil: UC, Wii Chess, Trauma Centre: SO, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Excite Truck, Medal Of Honour Heroes 2, NiGHTS, Geometry Wars Galaxies, Sonic & The Secret Rings and Link's Crossbow Training.
VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAMES: Mario 64, Super Mario World, Lylat Wars, 1080, Mario Bros 3, WaveRace 64, F-ZeroX and Zelda OOT.
Are you sure? A lot of reviews I read said the colours looked much brighter and cleaner. On mine, they look REALLY dull and pale, even when I set the brightness and contrast to the maximum.
As for disabling all other channels, what can I do about that? =/ The only way for me to solve that is to disable WiiConnect24, unplug the Wii or the RGB cable. That is really annoying. >_<

And what do you mean by an FW update?
FW is just short for FirmWare, ie the system update.
As i said, when receiving an RGB input TV's generally disable their contrast, colour, brightness controls etc and give you a "true" image. Hence your brightness and contrast alterations not making a difference.
Basically, what you see now, using the RGB cable is how the image is SUPPOSED to look!

But the brightness settings etc actually DO make a difference. 0_o I tried adjusting the settings whilst using the RGB cable.
Maybe, but i think you will find some of the settings dont make a difference to the picture at all! (i think it's colour, saturation and contrast)
As for the channel switching problem, as far as im aware there is no way to stop this!

Try and see if there are any settings in your TV that might help?!
Your RGB is usually AV1, so go into your menu for that input and see if there is anything like "scart control" or "auto switching" or similar and turn it off! Its worth a try.

the problem with the wiicontect24 is well annoying.
it happens on my tv too.
not so bad for myself
but when my dad is watching sky sports news and the telly switches to a blank screen he has no idea why or what to do.
so for now i have settled for leaving wiiconect24 switched on but when powering down the wii i press and hold the power button on the wii itself which puts it into power down mode (red-light).
this isn't ideal
but it means that i can still use the news channel and the forecast channel whenever i switch the wii back on instead of having to reconfigure the settings each time
not ideal
but until a new FW is released it'll do me just fine.
