Virtual Console and Wii ChannelsForum to discuss aspects of the Wii Virtual Console / Wii Channel and what to expect from it and its future game releases
"It has been revealed that from February, Sega will bring Master System games to the Wii Virtual Console, along with MkIII and Game Gear titles under the same mantel. The first games will be Fist of the North Star (600 Points) and Fantasy Zone (500 Points). The service will eventually come to the US and Europe as well. "
Apart from the Master System (with Game Gear) and Commodore 64 virtual console systems which have come out recently, has anyone heard of anything further about other consoles to be added in the future?
Someone mentioned that the Dreamcast is unlikely to be added to these systems. Why is this?
I also would like to see the Sega Saturn and Spectrum added.
What about others? Did any good games come out on the Atari Lynx? What about the Neo Geo Pocket?
How about a virtual arcade with 80's/90's arcade games which didn't make it to consoles? Sometimes the original arcade versions were better than the conversions to consoles, and I fail to see the reasons why nowadays the reasons why this is so could not be rectified. These original arcade versions could also be added.

I believe the dreamcast was disc?
The problem with emulator software (which is what the wii uses to play these games), is that they require space. The roms (games), also require space, now catridge games require a few MB tops for each game, so thats no problem.
As for disc's (aka dreamcast etc), jump from a few MB up to over 2-300 MB, and the wii simply wouldn't be able to hold that amount of data , and if you downloaded 10 games thats 2GB bandwidth, would kill of someone who has a monthly cap.

If they were compressed properly, you could easily get a dreamcast game under 50mb's. I've err got , I mean heard of Playstation games such as Tekken 3 under 50MBS. It's all about the manner in which they are packed. I think the wii could handle some of the games.

Ah. Right. Makes sense. It's just a shame that these games can't be added at present. Perhaps in the future though, with bigger bandwidth and extra storage facilities (e.g. an extra hand drive/capacity to play from stored data without copying it to the Wii's storage first), this may be possible! Forever the optimist!
Pc engine was cd based, so why not? we have PC engine games on VC dont we?

Ah well, if nintendo bring out something that allows more data storage im sure they will bring out newer consoles, but even then they would have to research pricing and such
