The Official Super Smash Bros. Brawl Knockout Tournament (June/July 08)
As suggested and approved by Foo, I set up this new tournament thread as the previous one was old, so you cant HoS me (ner-ner-na-ner-nerrrr )
Obviously, the PAL version of Brawl isnt released until the 27th of June, however by getting names now, I hope to cut out a bit of planning time, as I know many are eager to get started, including myself
This is the Super Smash Bros. Brawl Knockout Tournament
A 32-man knockout tournament.
Everyone is randomly drawn into 2-man brawls with a stock of 5, with a random choice of stage.
The winners of the matches proceed to the next rounds, until we reach the final.
At the final, the result will be determined through the best of 3 matches, 1 match chosen at one players chosen stage, the 2nd being played at the other players chosen stage and the last match being played at a random stage (if needed), all of which being played with a stock of 5.
You can use unlocked characters.
You can use unlocked stages.
However, this tournament will not wait for competitors to unlock stuff. It is up to you, if you want to use hidden characters and stages, to unlock them before the tourny starts.
If matches are not played with these settings, the loser has the right to call for a replay. To avoid any hassle, please check the match settings before you commence with your matches
If a game disconnects and you are unhappy about it, send me a private message about every detail of the match and I shall come to an objective decision. Disconnectors WILL be found out!
I AM PLANNING TO START THIS TOURNAMENT ON THE 7TH JULY....OUR PEAK/MAIN TIME FOR PLAYING MATCHES WILL BE 8PM
IF YOU PUT YOUR NAME FORWARD FOR THIS TOURNAMENT, YOU MUST BE COMMITED TO THIS TOURNAMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the 4 player matches may be too laggy, after hearing what Benny said about the lagg in this game I think we should play it safe.
We can try some preliminary games first to test the connections, about the rules then.
I propose 5 stock each with an 10 minute time limit(people usually have time issues so this way we know when the match will end) - Im not sure about items used since they can have an affect on the game...maybe turn the item spawn down to very low as to get some smash balls to appear.
I would like to see other peoples opinions on it aswell so we can customise the tournament to everyones tastes
4 man brawls are great fun, but 2 man brawls would probably be safer (connection wise) - also, there is nothing worse than beating an opponent to a pulp, only for another player to come in and hit them once and get the KO lol!
5 stock 10 mins sounds good. I would think you should keep items on but low spawn as Solar said as they are a big part of the game imo.
I'm going to have to get some practise in. Haven't played it for over a month now!
Thanks so much for the feedback guys, its appreciated.
I've made a list at the top of the thread for those who are interested in participating and another for those who can definately take part, as they have the game already. Once those interested have the game and supply me with a friend code, they are moved into the real list and are guaranteed a place.
I think, from experience playing this alot online with friends, that low items works well, and if you want to keep it un-tainted, then can I also suggest Battlefield as the stage. But can I also add that from playing experience, it doesn't matter really how many people are playing, but the connection of the players, because if 1 person is lagging then everyone except him is slowed down.
I would prefer not doing time just stock, can we use unlocks? what about stages too? as for items i dont use them but ill draw up a list of items for which you can decide on what ones? I would prefer also 1 v 1 as connection issues and the fact that 1 v 1 is better so kills etc, cant be stole. As for your question Ed i dont know what you mean? In terms on setting up, FC wise its iffy sometimes it takes a while for the codes to register, but setting up the servers (rooms) are easy and the lobby's are cool, and you can have your own custom taunts like mine (Go play Nintendogs!)
