Default A debate forum?

Just a thought. I've seen this on other forums and it tends to work quite well. It's a good way for people give their opinions on controversial matters such as the Iraq war, religion etc without full blown arguments, provided it is maintained and moderated properly. Just a thought though as it keeps potential arguments as mere discussions as long as people follow the rules.

In all honesty, I would have thought our General Chat/Wii Break section would do that job.

It gets controversial enough as it is, without starting a special debate section.

Poor JB would never get away!

No, seriously, feel free to start a new thread on any subject you like. If people are interested, they will discuss it with you.

Absolutely no point doing it, the threads always get locked on this forum.

On some of the other forums I visit there would be an uproar if the threads were locked. Then again, the Mods tend to be adults on these forums

Why have a debate thread? It would only lead to discussion and people expressing opposite views. I'm not in favour of it.

But that would simply be a contradiction, not a debate etc etc.......chill out with a beer c'pn:

I'm certainly in favour of more broad discussions, but it is rather difficult to judge precisely how high tempers and sensibilities are in a disconnected discussion like this. Moderation would truly be a mine field.

I have found that a Forum is a good one if you barely notice the moderators doing their job.

I've only really started posting on here a few days and I have already seen a lot of over modding.

To have a debate Forum can only mean more modding therefore IMO it just won't work on here

I've seen debate forums...They tend to done in really massive chunks for the first post and then get smaller, but I think a lot of times the post so much information that people don't bother reading it...If you want a debate thread for in depth discussions then you need to write in depth (a LOT of writing) which is just to boring to read IMO...It would be good though.
