They may have copied the idea, I'm not sure.

I do remember that after hearing that the Wii had a motion sensor and rumble in the controller Sony tried to do the same with their controller but failed as the rumble kept on interfering with their motion sensor!

I don't think it matters if they did or not.

Think of something from your childhood, a vivid memory. Between that time and now, every cell in your body has changed. So, were you really there?

No it doesn't! lol - it kept on interferring with the remotes sensors.

With such a large bulky controller (compared to the Wii controller) I'd imagine there was a limited amount of places they could put the sensor and rumble option in the controller and after all the issues they decided to drop the rumble...

They dropped the rumble because they're getting sued by the company who created and patented it, because Sony (unlike everyone else) are refusing to pay the licensing fees.
As soon as they started proceedings against them...lo and behold....Sony all of a sudden conveniantly "couldn't get it to work" <rotflmao>

Sony simply doesn't want to include rumble and pay the creators what they're owed.
Alternatively, they don't want to include rumble, lose the courtcase, and then pay even more as they've shipped it in their new console as well.

I dont think not having a rumble will effect the PS3 sales though, its more a nice thing to have than a necessity.

sony have blatantly copied every move nintendo has ever made. d pad, analogue sticks, rumble, motion sensor, shoulder buttons were all pioneered first by nintendo. sony hasn't got an imaginative bone in its body...and they're ripping off the xbox and 360 too.
