so then, in a similar vein, you're gonna say that nintendo copied Sony by using CD discs? as up until Gamecube they were a cartridge based game... Oh.. i guess they copied Atari for that as well...

Whoops.. seems Ninty are't as "imaginative" as you first thought....

Thats industry... one co brings out something... another rips it apart and develops their own competitor version...

Does it REALLY matter?

I don't think it does.

This is how everything works (not just consoles) someone brings out a successfull product so other people develope (not copy) a product to compete with it.

Competition can only make things better.

The rumble that is in the Wii controller for instance, that's been done before hasn't it by Sony and even on PC controllers. If you take the best bits from most consoles and put it all in to one great system... then why not?

Just read this:

Sony and Immersion sign new rumble agreement // GamesIndustry.biz

Does that mean they might be including a rumble option in future controllers for the PS3?

Yep, that's the company who's (or rather, was) sueing them.

I can see the headlines now:

"Sony PS3 Mega Premium Hyper version with new Immersion Technology TM controller = £625"

What will happen to the exisiting non-rumble controllers ----- product recall? (i think not )

They'll probably bring out the white and silver versions (when they do) with rumble controller included instead. This probably gives them enough time to let Immersion develop it.

Interestingly, Immersion said at the beginning of proceedings with Sony that they couldn't understand Sony's position seeing as they (Immersion) managed to help Ninty stick rumble alongside motion sensing in the Wii. They ended by saying something like "Sony should simply settle with us and get us to incorparate the rumble alongside the tilt functionality. We'll be able to do it with no problems"

And look what's happened

At least it's at near the beginning of the PS3 cycle, thus giving developers a 'headsup' to develop rumble feature back into the games.

sony didn't invent the cd, they did however try to beat their competitors by inventing betamax, minidisks, supercd and blu-ray.
i did love my first walkman though.

Betamax, those were the days! Betamax was superior quality compared to VHS but no one could make their mind up which standard was going to win until one day the likes of Blockbusters said sod it, and chose to pretty much only stock VHS tapes!

I believe Philips invented the CD and licenced it to anyone for a few pence.

The Sony Walkmans were the best! Great sound quality and on the top of the range model (which was really small compared to the others) only used 1xAAA battery!
