The biggest difference between the two (apart from visually where there is effectively none) is that for the first time, the audio is encoded in a
lossless format.
This is a MASSIVE improvement over the lower res audio of DVD.
Guess what? HD-DVD started utilising higher quality lossless audio for it's format from very early on.......Bluray have only just sussed that people who want this now have the equipment to put it to full use...their early BD's had horrible compressed sound.
I personally reckon that HD-DVD is in front at the mo' (looking at worldwide sales). However, equally
both HD-DVD
and BluRay have a BIG chance of failing in the long term.....just look at the so-called successor to CD....DVD-A and SACD
.....who won that one then

?
exactly, no-one, 99% of the public are still buying CD's and no-one gives a toss about either DVD-A or SACD.
The PS3
is technically impressive...but it'll impress me even more when a year has passed, there are some decent games out, it's priced more realistically rather than at it's current "let's scalp Europe" price and we have a better idea of which video format (if either of them) is the future
