Default Upgrading the PS3's hard drive

just a quick question to all you more technically minded people out there, as my ps3 is only a 40gb model i want to upgrade to something bigger, I found this online and wondered if it would be ok to put in the ps3, there is a review underneath by a chap who used this hard drive to upgrade

dabs.com - Western Digital 320GB Scorpio 5400RPM SATA-300 8MB 2.5" (WD3200BEVT)

also how easy is it to upgrade? what can I use to transfer all my existing data to , to hold and transfer back onto the new drive?

Sorry if I sound 'Fick' but its because i am!

Here is a guide on how to do it.
GamersReports

I don't really see the need here in the states, since we have the 80GB, but if you do need more memory, then that guide should say how to do it.

And about your data, just transfer it to a thumb/zip/jump/whatever you want to call it drive, or an external Hard Drive.

right got an internal HD today, I know you have to transfer the original data onto one of the above which skyman mentioned, can i not just transfer it onto a laptop then back onto the new HD, if so how do i do that, cause i dont really want to be spending any more cash on external Hd's and stuff like that!

I used a HD enclosure in that situation - but they aren't hugely cheap (£15ish). If you have a PC connect it internally as a second HD. Should work....

this is all french to me, i aint got a clue what to do!!!!

when i put the new drive in and switched the console on it was saying that i had to insert the latest update or something like that! what do i have to do to the new drive for the playstation to recognize it, I dont get the format hard drive screen like you are supposed to! I am getting really pi$$ed off with this now and the whole lot will be going out of the window in a minute..........it wouldnt be the first time thats happened!

is this the type of enclosure you are on about?

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/519233.../Product.html#

Somebody please help!

Its ok i have worked it out myself, i have lost all my game saves and stuff but not too bothered as the console is new and nothing much was saved, i downloaded the latest software from the playstation site put it on a disc, put the new 160GB hard drive in, put in the disc i had burned and hey presto, so far so good, just waiting for it to be formatted, why didnt i think of this before, if this works i can cancel the enclosure i have ordered, or maybe not cause now i have a spare 40G hard drive i could use for something.
