PS3 PS2 Compatibility - WiiTalk

I know when the PS3 first came out there were only certain consoles that were PS2 Compatible, for the games, is this still the case? or are all consoles now PS2 Compatible as my other half has quite a few PS2 games she likes to play?

ps2 compatibility is only available on the 60gb versions! not the 40gb that you can readily pick up in shops! can only buy 60gb second hand nowadays!! hope this helps?

Well thats a pain in the ass.. Is there anyway that wont void the warranty to do this? or what are they doing to allow backward compatibility?

there is nothing you can do! there was rumours a while ago that they might release the software but i would not hold your breath!

Wow, that's the worst bit of news I've heard about the PS3!

No backward compatibility?

Although I would have to be in the money to fork out of for a PS3, this would definitely sway me against it. We have far too many PS2 games to just give up on them, and there's no way I'd want 2 Sony consoles under the telly.

What were they thinking?

Wow I never new this... I just assumed the PS3 would play PS2 games like the PS2 played PS1

Although I don't have too many PS2 I still think its a big down side for alot of people.

The 60gb WILL play ps2 games. The 40 gb will not. You CAN play ps2 games, you'll just have to buy the more expensive system. The cheaper version they released that way to drop the price last year.

I understand that when they cheapen the technology, like they did with the ps2, and make it so they don't reuse ps2 parts for backward compatibility, the price will drop and they will have backward compatibility on both. Anyone can confirm this if they know it.

I only managed to get hold of a 40G, bit miffed as you can pick ps2 games up for next to nothing these days, oh well looks like i will be forking out £40 a game!

I need to have backward compatibility for this... I am not happy... there must be a way of getting 60GB ones in stores now.. My gf loves her PS2 games and im not just getting rid of them

Plenty of 60 gigs floating around in the U.S., I know that for sure. Its the 40 gigs that are hard to find.
