I have been sucked in by the whole GTA IV hype over the last couple of days and want to be in it!!
I don't know what to get though, an Xbox 360 or a PS3.
I'm swaying more towards a PS3 for the Blu Ray, graphics capabilities etc, but my bro has owned an Xbox for just over a week now and hasn't been seen since-totally immersed!!
The other reason for PS3 purchase, is that it hasn't been around as long.
So my question is this.....
What should I get?
I'd also like to hear the good and bad points of the consoles too from people who own one or the other, or both.
Thanks alot. Benny
P.S. I want to get it today.....EDIT:Won't be getting it today, in all the excitement, forgot Chelsea are playing lol!!

I would sway to the PS3 myself, I don't own either lol, but have played both often on my friends computers, I am also in the "360" or "PS3" situation lol, I think if you were going for price obviously go for the Xbox 360, but for long term, i'd go PS3 myself. I am awaiting the rumours of a PS3 slim to come to reality before I purchase one though I been reading alot lately about this, and knowing Sony this will almost certainly happen..

Iam going to say PS3 too... cause iam going to get one! but i had a 360 for 4 months and traded it in, (for a wii) halo and gears and good but i have both of them on my PC and id rather play other games (MGS4) annd i do have a ps2
Well I myself own a 360 so I voted for that. For me it was an obvious choice as I'm one of the biggest Halo fans your ever likely to meet but apart from that I'd say the good points of the 360 are:
*Xbox Live. Although PSN is free, whereas XBL has a subscription fee (£25 for 13 months/£2 a month) XBL is a lot better and is well worth getting a 360 just for if your into online play. Despite PSN being inferior however, it is free, so that's another point to consider.
*Games catalogue. Currently, I'd say the 360 has a lot stronger games library than the PS3. Almost every notable next-gen title I can think of is either on both consoles, or a 360 exclusive. However the PS3 will soon be getting MGS4 and GT5 so they're worth considering.
*Price. Pretty self explanatory really.
The only downside for me is that the 360 is notoriously unreliable. You still have a 99% chance of getting a good one though, plus if you get a brand new console than it's almost certain to be fine as they have fixed the problems on the new units.
Overall I think the clincher is what your online options are. If you know a lot of people who own 360's, than I'd strongly recommend getting one yourself as XBL is just amazing, as you said your brother has discovered. However if you know a lot of people on PSN than I'd sway more to that.
If online play wasn't an option than I'd recommend you get a 360. You can pick up new 360's for pretty cheap nowadays, so you could get one, plus a copy of GTA IV. You get a free month of XBL when you first sign up so you could use that to dip your feet in the water so to speak, by having a few games against your bro online. You could also use this time to check out some of the amazing exclusives the 360 has to offer. If you find you don't like it then I'm pretty sure you could sell the box for near enough the same price you bought it, and then buy yourself a Playstation.
Good luck making your choice bud
EDIT: Forgot to add, if you decide on a 360, drop me a PM if I don't notice your post about it as it would be great to play you on GTA IV online.
I've gone for PS3 as well. Yes they are slightly more expensive and currently I'd say the 360 had the edge in terms of number of games, but the PS3 has one major advantage and that's Blu-ray. Not only in terms of being able to play movies (the PS3 is currently the only Blu-ray player I think that is 100% furure proof as Sony are able to update the firmwear over the net) but also in terms of games. The 360 has a normal DVD drive, so can only use standard DVD's (capacity 4.7GB, or double that for dual layer). However the Blu-ray drive can handle 50GB odd. Imagine how much game data you could fit on one of those? I think the take-up of the PS3 has been slow but I really expect the software developers to start making use of the PS3's Blu-ray and also it's Cell processor.

Thanks for the comments and info so far guys. It's looking like PS3 (4-1). My girl said she would prefer me getting the PS3 as the blu-ray is future proof (as you say too Hooblue).
I am a greedy git and own all 3 and there are +/-'s to PS3/360
PS3
+ a tad more futureproof
+ Blu-Ray
+ HOME looks like it will rule
+ Big Little Planet will change the world
- more expensive (console+games)
- PSN still hasnt taken off
- no ingame XMB
- lacking lots of quality titles
the minuses are down to it being new though
360
+ well established
+ XBMC is superb, playing music through it PWNs PS3
+ cheaper packages available
+ you can pick up some well cheap games
+ xbox live is far superior
- you have to pay for it(xbox live)
+ pick up dead cheap HD DVD player & films
- HD DVD now unsupported
also work out how many friends you have with each as you dont want to be the only one with a PS3 while all your mates are enjoying 360 death matches online with GTA4.
