Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
I had a quick look over the recent reviews, and still haven’t actually seen this game reviewed here yet! I was surprised by this, so I thought I would have a crack at telling you all about this.
Many of you who were waiting for this game will already have it, but there may be some of you who are intrigued and want to know more, so read on. Maybe your just a casual gamer, looking for something interesting to play, with a long game life.
So here goes.
Title: Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Format: Wii / DS + Other
Price: RRP £39.99
Wi-Fi: NO
Players: 2
Although I was a partial fan of the Star wars series (never hard core, but always been there for the series) I had never played the star wars games on a console, partially because I thought it would have been lost without your own lightsabre etc.
Well finally they have all come together, all six episodes, each with six chapters in one game. Hearing the hype around the game, and the shortages, I did the typical British thing, and went to buy a copy. So after a long wait (internet shopping), I finally got the game.
Now I am only half way through the game now but I am thoroughly enjoying it, to be honest the time flys when playing it, for example by error yesterday I ended up playing for 4.5 hours.
Graphically:
Well this game is to be expected really, obviously the graphics are based on the visuals being lego, so there is no real smooth sections, however if you look beyond this the game really is great. The detail in making everything look like its been made out of lego is great. Ok I wish it looked smooth, but there’s other titles coming out for that.
All In all you should find comfort playing this game, your eyes wont hurt, and you will feel like your involved based on the graphics here.
All in all
Graphics: 9/10 Neat idea, graphics suit style of game, so if your looking for a smooth flush game, your in the wrong place.
Audio:
This is it, the moment you’ve been waiting for. You’ve unwrapped the packaging, you’ve heard it all before, your ready, your waiting, its only seconds away it is of course
YouTube - Star Wars intro v.3
Yes, the audio for the soundtrack is fairly repetitive, as you start each chapter, you have the ever so famous theme tune, as your mission objective as a whole scrolls away into the distance in front of you.
Then you begin to play the missions, the light sabre, sounds great, turn up the volume and swing it around needlessly its all fun.
The only let down is the cut scenes, (you can buy these later) you have this great video playing, but your sat in silence, no backing music, and no dialogue. All it needed was one of the above 2. For this reason it loses valuable scoring.
Audio: 6/10
Gameplay:
As you would expect from a game like this, which chronicles the 6 StarWars games to date, you are going back through time and playing out these films… in Lego format.
Begin on whatever film you want, and start at the beginning.
You choose your chapter (each must be unlocked to progress to the next) and take on the story. As you sit back and play, memories of watching the films will flood back to you. As you complete each mission in story mode, you will then unlock it as a free play level, where you can go back, and play with any of the characters you have unlocked (each character having different abilities). In addition to this you can get to some areas that are unreachable in the missions, due to character flaws.
Furthermore, once you complete an entire episode, new ways to play the film again arise, i.e try and complete all 6 chapters straight after one and other, in under 1 hour. The quicker you complete it the more monies you get.
There’s always submissions in this sort of game, from collection the parts to lego space craft, to collecting the money left lying around, there’s plenty to do and plenty to keep you occupied for hours. Furthermore, go back to Mos Eisley and chill in the Cantenia there.
With the control system being easy to handle, simple nunchuck joy pad to move, Z being an action button (use the force), c to change character, b to fire weapon / use lightsaber, or simply swing the Wiimote into action as your front room transforms to the Naboo.
Finally, the great thing is ou can never die. Well you are lego really, since when has lego died. Unless its Darth Maul!
There’s plenty of hiding space, I cant find everything yet and I’m loving it. Time flies when I’m sat playing it, so it gets full marks from me.
Gameplay: 10/10
Innovation:
Well to be fair the franchise isn’t new, but on its laurels, its done well, bringing the Starwars saga to the Wii, is a definite must. For that reason it scores a decent
Innovation: 7/10
Film Links:
There are literally hundreds of characters on the game, for you to unlock. As you encounter them, some auto unlock, some you have to buy at the bar, but once you have them all they end up with you in the Bar.
The game follows the path of the films and takes the key points. I keep remembering bits that I had forgotten about the film. I would say its well worth the money.
Film Links: 8/10
Overall Thoughts:
To conclude, I am new to this game and series, but so far I really am loving it. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about getting it. If your not sure still, try it, rent it give it ago you may well be as surprised as I was.
I hope this was helpful.
