The GodFather Black Hand Edition ((2nd Nov 07))
I thought I'd review this game, I played it a while back but still think it's one of the best games for the wii and is certainly over looked by many. I'll start with the basics and how good this game actually is!
Summary...The game starts of as you - viewing your Dad get murdered by a rival gang. You then get to create your character and name him, soon enough you become envolved in the whole storyline (of the Godfather 1) plus extra content, your goal is to take back New York as the Corleone empire and to ultimately become the Don of New York!
Gameplay... I'd describe the actual game as an action RPG, very simular to the Grand Theft Auto series. There's upgrades and everything here.Don't be disapointed. I spent over 40 hours completing this game, However I only did the core missions and spent as little time possible in doing them. There are plenty of proper missions to keep you entertained, with side-missions which add to your gang status. To complete the game fully I think about +10 hours is needed (to find every hidden film roll, do all the blackhand executions and a lot more!) I found the gamplay sticks very closely to the film plot, expect sneaking horses heads in peoples beds and gorotting people to death...Another great part of the game is killing your oppenents, there are hundeds of ways to kill people, from simple to plain obscure such as car bombings plus if you find it difficult a hit squad can be called up on to deal with the beef. The usual mafia extortions and rackets is all here to - which makes a huge part of the game. I'd say the gameplay makes the game, it's truly amazing!
Controls... The controls are managed very well, to hit someone you must use proper hand actions. To use the gun you fire the wiimote and press the 'B' button, it's made simplistic which suits the gameplay. A good bonus is the blackhand executions, a very wiimote-orientated death, the game also which makes good use of the nunchuk aswell. Controls are something which has hindered other wii games, but not here, at times it feels as if your playing on a PS2 controller, it's so easy.
Violence... I thought I'd mention this. The game is an 18 and rightly so, the violence is a big part of the game and like I said earlier, there's many ways to kill a man! You have loads of weapons, from baseball bats to car bombs. It's all there. A neat feature added for the wii is the blackhand style execution, a special way to kill some one, like breaking their neck or a special fist combo. I really liked the hand to hand fights, the wii mote makes them very realistic which is good, especially when extorting a business!
Graphics...The graphics are standard. They look like top of the line PS2 graphics which is ok. For an early wii release anyway. Don't expect to be amazed here but atleast they haven't tried anything to extravagant, it's all nice and fits in well with the darkness of the game.
Longivity... The games main flaw. If this was better then the game would be brilliant. However it isn't. I spent hours completing it and found nothing to do after. Usually I'm quite positive about making the most out of games but there's nothing after completion.Literally. One thing I did find weird was how me (and several friends) both admitted how the game was great - but boring after. I also felt sick whilst playing after completion. I don't know why, perhaphs it's the games dark feel combined with nothing to do? anyway theres nout after you've completed it.
On a different note to logivity I also found (by asking a few people) that this game is almost a carbon copy of the PS2/Xbox version. Apparently everything in here is the same, just a slight graphical improvement and more wii orientated. So I'd advice not to touch this game if you've played it before, but it does appeal to any hardcore Godfather fan, a must buy!
Gameplay...10/10. Barely anything I can think to say, there's not much wrong here, infact I thing there's nothing wrong here!
Controls...8/10. Brilliant again! Very well worked. Still could have a few very slight improvements
Violence...10/10. Very violent. I've said this is a good thing, but if you don't like violence then it's a 0.
Graphics...7/10. Could be improved so much. I mean, for a new title it's acceptable and there quite good, but in say 3 years maybe people will view them differently
Longivity...1/10. Not much here, so just don't try it, the game is good enough though. I've gave it a 1 as there is a small ammount of things to do, but still barely any...
Total...36/50
What I think. Get this game, don't let the aftermath put you off, the game is brilliant! The good news is a new Godfather for the wii is being developed, hopefully they'll make it even better!
So, my review is done. I hope it was good! I must stress to get this game, people say Zelda has about 70 hours and then is boring after completed. Well this game is exactally the same, go out and BUY IT!
Sorry about the pics :(
