Default OakyBoy's Red Steel review...

Ok then. after reading Doylen's review of Red Steel (or Red Steal ), I thought I would have a stab at it. I know it's not a recent game, but I enjoy writing these, and, as long as it doesn't offend anyone, it's not doing any harm.

Red Steel

When I first heard about the Wii, I had big hopes for any first person shooter games released on it. I mean, with it's innovative control system, how could it fail?!

When I heard about Red Steel, my hopes grew even greater! Not only were we going to have a first person shooter, using the Wii-mote to aim our gun as if we were really holding it. But we were going to have sword fights! Oh yes! It may only be me, but as soon as I saw the Wii's controller, I thought swords!

I've never been a fan of hack and slash type games before, where's the fun in pressing B or A to have a sword fight? But with this controller it could really work!

But enough of my anticipation, lets move on to when the game is actually with us.

When I first played Red Steel, I wasn't dissappointed! The graphics were smooth, and the guns felt good. But as you play further in to this game, you start to feel that the only reason you're enjoying it is because of the controls. If this was an Xbox, or PlayStation game, you wouldn't be happy!

Don't get me wrong though, this is a good game, enjoyable and a good first attempt. But it won't jump out and say 'LOOK AT ME!'.

The sword fights are very enjoyable! It's not as an exact thing as I had hoped though. I had been thinking that the sword would follow your movements exactly, but that's not how it is. They can also sometimes feel slightly sluggish, and un-responsive. Definately a fun addition though!

One thing that I do really like, is the gun's physics. As you fire them they feel, satisfiying! I'm not too sure why, and it's probably something you have to play to experience, but they are a great thing!

The storyline is enjoyable, it's not a deep and interesting one maybe, but it is fun! Like those bad action movies, where the hero survives countless shots to the head, cars rammed in to his chest and high tech fighter plane chases. You don't mind all these things however, because it's an enjoyable experience. So, in short, if you buy this game expecting something truly special, you will be dissapointed. If you buy this game expecting cheap thrills, you'll love it!

Summary
Graphics 8-10: Smooth and quite impressive.
Gameplay 7.5-10: The controls make this fun to play, but there are much better shooters out there, on different formats of course./
Multi-player 9-10: Very enjoyable, a huge laugh! No online play though.
Sound 7-10: Good sounds in a gun fight, I'm personally not too keen on the sound track though.

My advice, wait for Red Steel 2!

Thanks for reading!

I never really gave red Steel a proper look. Might see if I can borrow it from somebody... see what it's like. Might intice me to get number 2

Who was the first person to look at a cow and say,
"I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here, and drink whatever comes out"?

I too never really looked at it. It seems weird how the best graphics games for the wii are the launch title ones (Zelda,Red Steel and Excite truck) They're really crisp!

Good review, makes me wish I got that instead of Marvel UA... I like the reviews more when they have pictures in...lol sounds very childish

It does seem strange mate, very odd....

Cheers mate!

Haha, I know what you mean. They make it easier for the reader to picture the subjects you cover in the review aswell.

At the moment redsteel is my favourite game for wii, i think your right about the sluggishness of the sword fights but im still struggling to put the controllers down (have it paused at the moment :P) the only thing that would make this game INSANELY AWESOME is if it had online features. Im yet to play multiplayer as everyone i know is a noob and sucks at wii but when some of my friends give up on xbox 360's red ring of death im hoping they'l get a wii and get pro at redsteel, because lanning redsteel would be INSANELY AWESOME :p
