On the surface Marvel ultimate alliance is just another ported game on almost every platform. I'm sure some people will agree that it sucks in several places but I actually quite like the game. I got it for a whopping £40! last Xmas which was very pricey, however I recomend it to anyone for under £20.
Gameplay - The gameplay itself is set on three difficulty modes (easy, medium, hard) it has over 5 levels of play with zones within levels. It took me about 20 hours to complete this game first time round. I wasn't very impressed to be honest as it seemed to me that it was X-men legends all over again. But to be honest Xmen legends is a really good game. So it appeals on a few levels, (to past xmen and marvel fans. And to people new to the series). I found it unchallenging from begging from start to end. The game is about Dr Doom trying to destroy the world. It's quite fitting with the storyline but could have been improved.
Controls/Camera angles - I found the controls where a little stale. You can press buttons or use the wiimote. I found that after a while it was too complicated to use the wiimote, so it was quite tiring. I thought the camera angle could of been improved from Xmen legends as it still fails to move around correctly. These are a few of many flaws in this game which can make the experience fell stale and weak...Atleast nunchuk is used.
Characters - Theres over 20 characters to unlock with new and old marvel characters, although I thought they where like recycled Xmen characters I still thought they where one of the freshest parts of the game. Each character has different special attacks and theres some really cool people on it like Blade and Deadpool. It also features the Fantastic 4, Xmen and more !
Unlockables - These have kept me entertained for a long time, you can unlock new characters, levels, comic strips and costumes. I've probably spent about 5 hours unlocking all the bonus material
Graphics - Could've been better, a lot like ps2 graphics at times, but then again the whole game is like a port at times.
If you look on metacritic reviews it gives this game 73/100. Since its release date on the 31st of December, it's still on Metacritics top 20 wii games - which shows something. On IGN it has 6.5/10 which has a measly 'passable'. So it has some mixed reviews, I guess to get the maximum enjoyment from this game you must redo levels and stuff as it will keep you entertained for a bit longer!
So...
Gameplay: 7/10. Could of been improved in many ways, the game seems rushed
Controls/Camera/Sound: 5.5/10. Proves that these are vital to a game, still you get the hang of the cheesy sounds and controls
Characters: 10/10. This makes the game, you've got so much to choose from
Unlockables: 9/10. With bonus missions, etc it makes the game that bit more special
Graphics: 6/10. Typical early released game, nothing special.
Total: 37.5/50. For a cheap price I'd give it a try... Hope you liked my review. A must for marvel fans
