Super Swing Golf suffers from an identity crisis. Visually, you'll find an overabundance of cutesy anime elements sure to alienate PGA Tour wannabes. Yet the alienated (aka people who have golfed in real life) are also the players most likely to succeed, thanks to the game's true-to-life swing physics.
In the past, the Hot Shots Golf series pushed the goofball boundaries with big-head characters and quirky mannerisms, but the airtight gameplay made it a convincing alternative to Tiger Woods. Here, players hit the ball with a hammer, a cricket paddle, or even a mace. It's fine, but it lacks the cleverness and personality of what Hot Shots brings to the links. Once you overcome the pageantry and get down to the golf, though, you'll discover a key reason to choose this over Tiger: Unlike in EA's game, you'll actually be doing the swinging, using the Wii-mote as a virtual golf club.
