I couldn't agree more with the entire post. The only reason I can see for playing the solo aspect of the game is to unlock everything. Why couldn't they upscale MKDS - keep the lightening how it used to be and leave POW blocks out of it. Blue shells back to the old fashioned 'spiky' that travels along the ground knocking everyone out of its way. Ditch bullet bill while your there too - dropping me off infront of a sharp corner every time! And that damn beeping everytime some threat comes close.
One definate positive from this though - being able to add friends direct from your existing wii address book through the channel. Love that
I think its a shame there's a lack of customisation, as weather or not its something that interests you its also good to have the most choice in games. And after being in to a certain way of playing it can really revive a game to tweak the whole experience.

I.e taken off certain items etc.
or only green shell races
i agree that custom games can be great but i have played many games online over the years and when you have custom games it gets harder to get people to join your game .
MK is deffinately an exciting game with an arcade feel to the max ... for me it is a game that is best used as a "come home drunk and thrash it out with your mates" kind of game and for that i have PES2008 ... not sure, but i know i will def keep an eye out over time for a second hand bargain on this one!
It would be awesome if, somehow, they managed to incorporate a one player mode where there was some reason for doing it - probably can't though and in a way i guess it completely goes against the ideal of MK ... who knows!
Played round my mates at weekend though and absolutely loved every minute of it!

Knifes only on BF2 anyone?
Sure but having customization is always great, even if its only for a few friends. Stock games can always be played.
This is my first Mario Kart game, and I am loving it, but it does have some definate flaws.
1st time I played it, my immediate thought was "oh my god why are the karts moving so slowly?". After playing more serious racing games, it can seem so slow paced at first, though it does get better as you go further into the game.
As mrs ff says .. .. not everything that finishes quickly is good .. .. sometimes you need it to be slower .. .. ..

I enjoy using the items, but it would be fun to race without them now and then.
If you stick to the time trials then you won't have the power ups .. .. ..
Just a thought .. .. I've not read a single complaint about the powerslide boost or the boost panels on the floor .. .. Why no request to switch them off?

It's fun for novelty value or for people who aren't used to video games maybe, but it takes a lot of energy moving that wheel sharply left and right and flicking it to do tricks compared with the much quicker smaller movements needed with classic controller or nunchuck/wiimote.It's like some of those games on the Wii that put motion sensitive controls in where they really aren't needed and it would be better to sometiems just stick to traditional console style controls, or things like in Metroid which has a fantastic control system, but just that one annoyance of having to flick the wiimote to jump in morphball mode when it would have been much easier to just use a button for it. Motion controls are great where they are appropriate and implemented well, but sometimes they get used unnecessarily in wii games.
Still a very enjoyable game though.
The wheel is great once you learn how to use it. Sure, the lap times might be slower but the interactive reward is higher. I've been playing MK since it was released on the SNES (I still have a boxed copy).. .. .. hardly new to gaming .. .. .. and I think the wheel improves the game, rather than detracting from it.
It takes too much energy to turn the wheel?
A minute ago you were moaning that the game wasn't realistic enough
Having played Mario Kart 64, MKDD and MK DS, I am currently thoroughly enjoying MK Wii, I have one or two gripes as mentioned in the OP.
Firstly, I have lost count of the number of times I've been in the lead and then right near the end of the final lap. hit by a salvo of items in a very short space of time and ended up finishing in 5th or 6th place etc. At times I have been hit by Blue shell, red shell, POW and the Ink all in the space of what must amount to about 5 metres!!! All the while other racers go whizzing by.
However, I am still really enjoying this game. The online play has been great fun so far, even tho I'm seemingly terrible at it.
Also I am pleased that there are the options on local multiplayer to turn off the computer racers, and also the weapons. My girlfriend and I have had great fun racing against each other with no computer racers and no items, just unadulterated racing skills...great fun!!!
As other people have said, I would like to have seen the option to fully customise the items, even if only during local play. I'd love there to have been options like in the worms serious games, allowing you to pick and choose exactly what items were available.
As for the introduction of the wheel....I absolutely love it!!! I may not be the greatest racer on the planet but that really doens't matter to me, I just want to enjoy playing the game, and that most certainly is the case. I find it very satisfying powersliding round a long hairpin bend and boosting out of it, much more so than in any previous MK game!!!

Kin hell, your clearly not coming home lashed enough if you've still got the ability let alone the desire to play PES on the wii!
