Lots of people asked when the great days of The Snes and the Genesis Who was Better Mario or Sonic?, Well now Sega and Nintendo have joined together in one game Mario And Sonic at the Olympic games witch is the one of the games for the 2008 Beijing Olympics exclusively on the Nintendo wii and ds. This game contains all your favorite characters from Mario and Sonics universe from Knuckles to bowser, but not donkey or diddy kong? and with Mii support too, but your Mii will only copy another character ie Mario, and they will be exactly the same minus they don't talk The characters are grouped into Power, Speed, All Round and Skill.
Game Modes.
Mario and Sonic has several game modes Single match, Circuit and mission mode, the game also contains, gallery and rankings which you can upload via the Wi-Fi connection. Single Match mode is where any of the games you have unlocked can be played, with friends or by yourself, this is great if you havnt played any of the games you might want to practice as they are crucial if you want to play the Circuit mode. The circuit mode is where serval cups are available to win, like in the Mario kart games, etc where you play a series of games of points which are added at the end to see who wins gold, silver or browse. And wining all the cups unlocks other games and cups witch can be played in the single match or the next circuit cup. Mission mode contains events where certain events where you might have to finish in a certain position etc, which feels tacked on in case you finish the games other modes. Gallery mode is also not so great its very factual and has information about the history of the oylimpics etc but to view all of it you have to play stupid mini games like whack – a – mole etc witch also feels tacked on to increase the play time of the games.
Game play
The game play in Mario and sonic is average the developers tried to incorporate the wii controls witch they did an ok job on but they use the same controls throughout most of the games like in all the games that include running or swimming of any sort and require you to move the wii remote and numchuck up and down or just the wii remote witch is good if you don't have 2 numchucks but some of the games benefit and require the numchuck. The game also can show you how to play before the game starts.
Sound and Graphics
The sound in the game is bad there is not much music and all of the sounds are repeated every 5 seconds especially in the rowing events as for the graphics there not so great either there pretty basic, they could have done better.
Replay Value
The game has some replay value but only if you have friends to play it with as it gets very boring due to repetition the main single player is Mostly to unlock the other events.
Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games is Ok but due to repetition and a lack of game play options brings the game down and is only really good for a purchase to play with friends of if you get the game pretty cheap. I felt pretty disappointed with this game and felt that it could have been better.
