Default World Exclusive - Read On

I am about to deliver a WORLD Exclusive (and I hope im not breaking any laws by doing so :P) an actual non commerical review of Mario Kart on the Wii, with just 4 days until its release, I am going to draw you in.

Obviously this is a limited review as I dont have much to discuss on it (due to the limited nature of my play test, but here goes

MARIO KART WII

I know how much everyone on this forum is desperate to hear more about it, play it and love it.. So Im going to try and give you a little more excitement

Title: Mario Kart Wii
Format: Wii
RRP: £34.99
Wifi: YES
Players: 4 (16 Online)

So, please remember I am going into this review with a limited play test at this stage

Graphics:

What ever you say to me right now, I can not be changed from this. The graphics are for this game intense. I have never felt, like I was a part of the game (when everything around me was a cartoon) before. But here for the first time, I was involved. The graphics were so smooth, this game shows the powers of the Wii, and they are great.
The smoothness of it all, the flow its amazing. I cant fault the graphics for this game, and thats why it scores so highly.

Graphics: 10/10

Audio

NO AUDIO AVAILABLE FOR DISCUSSION. HOWEVER A FAIR SCORE OF 8 IS BEING AWARDED FOR PREVIOUS VERSIONS, AND I AM SURE THIS WILL SURPASS THAT

Audio: 8/10

Gameplay:

This is the most exciting bit for me to discuss, we are more than aware that the gameplay on previous versions has been great, and the newest version is no different. Players can get immursed in this game for hours on end, and not get bored.

I quite simply loved it. The extended online play of 16 players will allow for some superb racing action, and will remind wii owners why they bought there Wii, and also why they are luckier than people who only own a PS3 or XBox 360.

Yes you are simply eft behind on the starting grid without this game. Again with only a limited pay test I can only say so much... But I know you will love it, as we play back on all the much loved previous levels, and learn more of the new levels.

The karts vary in size and shap, from prams to go karts through to the new bikes. Suprisingly the bikes work really well on this game and the handling is not an issue, as I had been anticipating.

I have only played with the Steering Wheel and it was simple enough. The wheel is really comrotable in you hands and looks great. However for those unsure of this still you have plenty of other options.. including:
Wii mote
Wii mote and Nunchuck
Classic Controller
Gamecube Controller

So there will be something for everyone on here.

Characterwise, its a bit different from previosu versions:
No longer is it all amazing that toad is the lightest = fastest, because it means things like lightning will slow toad down and make toad smaller for longer than the affect it would have on bowser, so you have to work out your best strategy.

The new items, well you have the POW which drops on you, and lighting store (as im calling it) which is where you get a lighting strike above just yourself and you have to crash into someone else to make them have it, or youll be made small.
Ink screen, where ink obscures your view, makes for fun racing.
Finally, big Mario etc.. Like in New Super Smash Bros on the DS here you can make you character huge, and crush everything in your path, not to mention you wont slow down

Gameplay: 10/10

Innovation:
Well its not new... But it is clever, and the first one and only one for the wii so its only ever going to get :

Innovation 10/10

Family Play:

Its quite obvious that the game that was designed and hand crafted for family play should have a mention here. Your not going to get a better game for the whole family to play. SSBB will attempt to come close, but in all reality, its never going to come close to matching that of Mario Kart. It is the perfect family game, with a bit of everything

Family Play 10/10

Overall Thoughts:

I really enjoy this game, hence the fact I have played for 8 hours. I cant wait till friday, and I know you cant either. Good luck in getting your copies and Ill see you online on Friday afternoon

Graphics: 10/10
Audio: 8/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Innovation 10/10
Family Play: 10/10

Overall Score: 96%
Well its my higest score, and it still has potential to go up with the addittion of hearing the audio. Its deffo a Gold award Game

Now I want to hear your comments and feedback on this really please.

Many Thanks for your time. Please give me your comments on this game, or on the review in general. I appreciate all feedback.

Regards

Alex

I have a question.

Have you played MKDS?

The reason that I ask is that the controls in MKDS are so so so much tighter than the controls in any of the previous versions of Mario Kart.

If you have played MKDS, are the controls as good as that, or are they more like MK64?

I was told on Saturday that up to 16 players can compete onlin e

Erm as for Mario Kart DS, I cant compare to that as I havent played that, but the controls are tight. Not too senstive (if your a bit wobble on the wheel) but snesitive enough if your trying to do a slight turn youll turn

For one thing, the ink is in MKDS, just thought I would point that out.
Another thing I would have to argue with is the innovation score. While it does get points for the wheel and bikes, you could really just call it an upgrade.
I think I am looking forward to this, but I doubt it can beat Brawl, because it is just an amazing game.

Yes, I understand what you are saying there Skyman. I have to say that I havent played DS, which is why I was unable to compare it. In terms of it, I compared to to MK64 and MKD.

I think that whilst SSBB is an amazing game and I am sure it will give it a run for its money, I would like to say that in terms of a family game that MK:W Will win, but for general gameplay for the regular gaming market then the majority will find SSBB a better game

Furthermore, I understand about the innovation. If I didnt mark it highly, then the whole score would have been low, but in reality all the new aspects do add it up. Its hard to explain, but there is a lot of new stuff in this, such as being able to view international stats around without even having the disc in. These small steps hae all added up and thats why it has this score
