Default And So It Begins...

Or so you would think. Well, infact it already has begun, and it started months ago. What am I talking about you ask?? ...The Wii of course. Or, to be more exact... The Nintendo Revolution (that was the Wii's code name for years, for all of you who didn't know, but you probably all did anyway, but it's just to cover my own back to be honest. (Incidently, since I'm on my first tangent here, let me warn you all now that I'm renouned for my little, or sometimes big, tangents I go on. But, hopefully, they'll brighten up your day, and bring a smile to your face everytime you read one, and I'll get a nice little warm feeling inside (don't be perverse) that will also brighten my day. Anyway, getting back to the subject...)).

Now obviously, Nintendo used the name "Revolution" because of their revolutionary new way to control and interact with games. But, the question you've really got to ask yourself, did Nintendo really mean something else, a different kind of revolution.

Some would say that Nintendo themselves have had the revolution. People wondered would the Wii take off, would people buy in to the idea of interacting with games through movement, would gaming developers produce games for their new machine, would Nintendo recover from the poor results of their cast-aside Gamecube? The answer... a massively resounding YES!

Nintendo have proven to the world again that they are gaming pedigree. And to be completely honest, every single person reading this right now, knows just how good Nintendo are at making fun, exciting, addictive games. Not a single person can say this is not true.

Would the Wii take off? Would people buy in? Take a look on any website showing the world sales of the Wii, the XBox 360, and PS3, and which is the stand out console. Of course, the Wii. I will hold my hand up, and say I was one of the people out there who were dubious about how success the Wii would be, and really, hats off to Nintendo with the success they've had so far. Even Microsoft seem to champion on for Nintendo against what seems the evil-release of the boo boo hiss hiss PS3 (Microsoft's words, not mine (Bill called me yesterday, and told me he would sue me if I didn't call it the boo boo hiss hiss PS3 (PS. I think Bill secretly has a crush on me, he sends me emails with pictures of him with no glasses on! NO GLASSES ON! Sick man!))).

Games development? Not a problem! A massive, massive turn around by games developers who backed off from the Gamecube years, now flocking back, bring new, fresh, interesting ideas to the fold. It's amazing what a little imagination in the games world does. And really, the imagination is there, it's undeniable. Remember when you first got your Wii, set it up, put in Wii Sports. Over half of you would have gone straight for Wii Tennis. Remember the feeling of taking that first swing at the ball. How fresh did it feel to do that? Completely!

Forget about the games industry, I've rambled on enough about them, and them making their money, trying to keep us happy. What about the social revolution Nintendo has brought to us? Now, for me, along with a lot of you out there, have come in after a drinking session, with your mates, and sat there staring at the screen for a few hours, playing you favourite games. But, now it's no longer a matter of who is sober enough to button bash the fastest. Now, it's more of a party feel. Take games like WarioWare, Monkey Ball, and Wii Sports as an example. Get you and your mates in a room, and let the fun begin. Funny thing is, people now have "Wii Parties". Basically, everyone goes to someones house with their Wiimote, and basically connect up, and play. And really, your not statically sitting infront of the screen anymore. Your up, all over the place, playing your part in the entire party atmosphere. Complete difference, and what a change it makes. Gatherings seem louder, banter becomes funnier, competition becomes tighter. The entire mood in a room changes completely because of the higher amount of interaction between you, your friends, and the game.
(DISCLAIMER: I neither condone nor condemn drinking alcohol, or sessions "out on the lash". Each person is too their own, and should follow their own thoughts and feelings entirely. Also, some people reading this may be under the legal drinking age, and therefore, do not blame me for turning you into a raging alcoholic, a-thankyou!)

But, with such a huge push to begin with, such a surge of enthusiastic games players, games developers, etc., how will Nintendo continue in to the future. Will their revolution throughout the games world continue, will they bring more new ideas, fantastic games, and social delights to their current and newly founded fan base? Who knows? I for one hope this is merely the beginning of something completely fantastic for us games players. Be proud, you are a Wii owner!

So, what do you make of the big revolution?
Is it really a revolution, or just a big fad?
Are Nintendo up to the challenge of feeding an ever-demanding games world?

Have your say, and tell me, and the rest of WiiTalk what you think on the subject!

Great blog ShaunyBoi.
I agree with you on so many points (esp. re: the social side of it. It's definitely more attractive to simply pick up and play "naturally" [eg WiiTennis] than it is to read a manual, learn what does what, and then button bash).

I also agree that Game Devs will be flocking to the Wii in a direct reversal of what they did on the Gamecube.

I agree too on the sociable side. I think the evidence on the likes of YouTube and so on is there - showing already that the Wii brings people together. I only wish my own family / friends would join in more - they're happy to watch me jump about like a maddie (not to mention my wee daughter - watching her play at Wii Sports boxing is extremely funny... makes me dread even more what I must look like!). Perhaps I need to add more alcohol into the mix to get the conservative (I stress small c) adults to join in more! :-)

cheers
Stupot

When I first got my Wii I used to sit there (well stand) and play it on my own... it wasnt until I took it round my little brothers house, where my parents are and thats when I understood what Nintendo were trying to do... the Wii is a real "age doesnt matter" console - my mother who started to play the Wii has also know taken control of my little brothers Nintendo DS where she sits there all day playing Brain Games.

Once I move I will hold a Wii evening at my place, like the old Fifa / Pro Evo nights which had died - I know that the Wii will be twice as fun..!

Nice first blog post...!

Honestly, Wii-parties, it's the future, I've tasted it!

Seriously, you may think this is a joke, but it is far from it. Wii parties are happening now. Thing is, people did just used to play games in the past to fill a gap, pass time, etc. But, now people are using their Wii, a selection of games, a group of friends or family, and are just having a good time.

Btw, thanks for all the great comments guys

Really, you allow them to use your wii at different locations? I don't really don't like for people to borrow my systems because of roughhousing. I don't mind people coming to my house to play. Wii parties, huh? No, one has invited me to a Wii party. By the way, nice first blog!

I know for a fact I'm very very protective over my Wii. I've never been so protective over a games console in my life. But, personally, I'm really reluctant to take mine out of the living room, never mind out of the house.
