<irish-accent> Ah, begora! Top of t'morning to ya! I trust ye all had a cracking st paddy's day! </irish-accent>
So, I've had an idea... and here it is! Fortunately (or unfortunately, whichever way you feel about it), I've decided that Sunday's are going to be "Shauny's Sunday Session" days. That's right! Fantastic idea... huh!?
And what is this "Sunday Session" I hear you cry? Well... um. Well... erm. Hmmm... oh screw it! I know what it is, am just playing. The Sunday Session is about the week as a general, Wii in general, and debatable issues... in general.
Told you I knew what it was about, oh yes... I knew it all the time. 8-)
Anyhow, lets get down to business (and I apologies now for the many tangents)....
So, sitting here this morning, having just enjoyed a good st Paddy's night out, wearing a big stupid Guinness hat. I'm currently watching the second half of the West Brom v Birmingham match, hoping West Brom have it in them to win. What can I say... I'm Sunderland supporter, we're 2nd in the league now, I don't wanna slip back down to 3rd. No way! Not at all!
Anyway, sitting here, I've been thinking about Virtual Console games. By now, I would think most of your would have bought and downloaded your favourite games from the list of mediocre selection of games available. Looking at this weeks releases; Splatter (Turbogrfx), Ice Climbers (NES), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES). Seriously, this is the best they can come up with!?!?!
FFS, if Nintendo are having a joke, I'm not laughing. What a big let down!!!
But, this does seem to be a bit of a norm at the moment. Nintendo seem to have a good week when they release a fantastic game (Zelda: OOT) with a couple of mediocre games. Then, follows a huge gap of...
(You beauty, great goal, 1-0 to West Brom)
... mediocre to crap games taking up pages and pages on the wii shop. Worrying really. Why are Nintendo doing this to us loyal and loving Wii fans, supports, owners??? Suppose this is something that is out of our control.
So anyway, what I was really thinking about was which games I'd reallym really love to see on the Virtual Console.
Lylat Wars - Now, for me, this was one of the greatest games you could get on the late, great Nintendo 64. This game had it all. Good graphics, great game play, lots of fun, and a fantastic multiplayer mode. Also, let us not forget this was the first Nintendo 64 game to have the rumble option on it. Most packages of the game came with a rumble pak + batteries. Fantastic!

The game contained some brilliant and genius levels and challenges. Remember the movie Independance Day? Remember the scene where their fighting the aliens underneath one of the ships, trying to make a shot at the huge weapon core on the underbelly of the ship? Great bit of movie imagery that. And what did Lylat Wars do......?? That's right, they ripped it off gloriously and put it straight in to the game. 100% Brilliance. But, that was Lylat Wars all over.... plainly, and simply...... BRILLIANT!!!
And, again with the multiplayer. Now, I'm never great at any game, ever. But, with Lylat Wars multiplayer, I still stand... UNDEFEATED! (Much like Sunderland in 2007

). That's right... I have never been beaten on the Lylat Wars multiplayer. I kicked ass at that game. and just to wind people up when I was winning, I used to Kamakazie them if I was out gunned and with no bombs. They may have been lashing my Arwing all over with laser fire, but they couldn't stop the inevitable hunk of heavy steel flying towards them with the boost on full. Bit evil, I know, but I always won... ALWAYS!
(Bugger, 1-1 now, not happy!)
Super Swiv - This was a bit of a strange one, very unheard of. I remember lending this off a mate at school, years and years ago. Was weird. A bit R-Type meets a helicopter, a tank, and various army-enemy kinda types. It was definitely one of those games you would always go back to. The game was sprinkled with all the norms you'd expect from a R-Type clone. Power-ups, waves of enemies, end of level bosses, etc. But, the thing that always did my head in was the two player mode. Ack, with your choice of tank and helicopter, everyone wants to be the helicopter. Why? Cos it's not **** like the tank!
Super Mario Bros 3 - I don't care what anyone else says about this game, this was the definitive Mario game for me. It had it all (much like the way I said earlier about Lylat wars), fantastic levels, great gameplay, loads of hidden secrets, and many many different "suits". Can you remember them all?? Raccoon, Toonikie, Sledgehammer, Frog, Firepower. Greatest game on the NES in my opinion.
So anyway, enough with the virtual console talk for now.
What has Shauny Boi been doing recently. Well... that would be playing FIFA 07 - gamecube styly. Well, I've had to play the gamecube version since there isn't a Wii version of it out yet. Great thing is, last week, I spyed on Amazon Wavebird controllers going for the low, low price of £18! £18! That's like half price!!! Sweet. So me being me, I ordered 2

. And to be honest, their perfect for the Wii when your playing your retro downloads, and gamecube games. Lovely-Jubbly!
Has to be said, Nintendo were bang on with putting the backwards compatibility in to the Wii. I personally have 40+ gamecube games, and it's great that I don't need to moth ball any of them. So, the way I see it, is to invest in a load of gamecube stuff for your Wii (being games, accessories, memory cards) before the stuff is discontinued. These items are on the cheap now, so make sure you grab them soon.
Now strangely enough, I haven't gone off on many tangents at all throughout this, and haven't been particularly comical today. But, I reckon, have a look back for my midweek topic, and you'll be guaranteed a chuckle.
Anyway for today...
What do you think about Nintendo retro VC releases? Good or Bad?
What games are you looking forward too, and what do you hope to see?
How do you feel about the backwards compatibility of the Wii? Will you ever use it, or do you think it's a godsend?
Hope to hear some good responses.
