Today I finally decided to get the ball rolling and start my life. I've been out of school for over a year now, working part time in a crap little shop earning pennies. I've not done anything about my career because I honestly had no idea what I wanted to do. But today I headed into my local AFCO (Armed Forces Careers Office) and began the application process to join the Royal Navy. I am genuinely excited about this as the job looks amazing; I'll get paid to travel the world. But I've got a long way to go. Need to go back to the AFCO to complete the application form, do the aptitude tests, fitness test, medical etc and that's all before I start the year's worth of training.
Also, today being D-Day, I'd like to take this opportunity to remember the servicemen and women who won Britain its freedom during the second world war, and to all our servicemen and women who continue to serve our country in Afghanistan and Iraq today.
Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Caesar mate, i left school at 16 and messed about in crapy jobs till i was 20 before i joined up and it was the best move i ever made.
My advice would be keep an open mind, remember that training is meant to be hard/crappy and is nothing like the real job when you get into it.
Good luck mate and stick with it, it will change your life swear to god.

Respect goes fully out to you.. If I wasnt in the situation I am in now, where I feel I am going to be more of a family man and business owner, than a solitary person (that I thought I would be for years, I would have jumped on the Navy band wagon. Infact my first application to the RN was made when I was just 12 years old.
Full respect.> Good Luck... The navy has a great lifestyle too
Rubbish, the armed forces main fitness standards are based around the Bleep/Shuttle test. I cant quote all the levels needed but an under 30yo needs to run to 9.10 and then do about 15 press-ups and 35 sit-ups.
Its not ironman standards is it.

I think he was joking? Cause I do rock climbing. lol
For the entry fitness test I'll need to run 2.4km (1.5 miles) in less than twelve minutes - no problem. I go for jogs once a day, alongside rock climbing etc so I have no worries concerning my fitness.
As Ryeb said, you don't need to be super fit, just not lazy.
And thanks for the support guys!

Not being funny but unless you break your leg your pretty much guarenteed to join up (amazing thing is there no fitness update after you have joined)...
Sounds like a good career tbh, i like the sound of it and like you say you get to travel the world for free. Just dont go getting stuck on a grounded nuclear submarine, not that it could happen in this day and age with tom tom`s.
It would be nice to think you wouldnt actually get involved in a combat situation too.
