This weekend was supposed to be a happy occassion for my girlfriend and her family as she turned 21 on Monday. But Sunday afternoon, I left home (having worked the night before, (she was already at her parents). I got to her house, and we had to go to Sainbury's for the food for the next day.
Whilst we were out her lil sis had a siezure. I can safely say it was one of the scariest things Ive ever seen, or dealt with (and have dealt with a lot doing security). Thank-fully she is okay now, but she scared me out of my wits.
We still went out the next day and she seems fine. Which I am glad about. The only good thing too come from this, is although I have been in the family for 18months, I finally got accepted fully, as they saw me put everything on hold for the safety of their daughter, and it brougght me and the sister closer, which is good
Scary stuff mate. Do they know what caused it? The only thing that I could say is that when someone is having a fit/seizure, it sometimes ends up looking a lot worse than it actually is. Obviously I'm not saying it isn't a serious thing as it obviously is but staying calm is the best course of action, which you obviously did very well. Well played.

I did however argue the toss with the store manager, who wouldnt turn the lights off for me, and thought I was stealing the drink in my hand when I ran out of the store to greet the first responder
good work man. glad to see your the kinda guy to take action. seizures are never a fun thing to witness, i've witnessed a few myself. the scariest thing i always find is how tired the person is afterwords. its like they've just used up a days energy!
Well done you for staying calm and dealing with the situation so well and what a bonus getting family acceptance too.
I have a friend who has fits and she said that she aches the next day from head to toe, she feels as if she has had the hardest workout ever from all her muscles tensing up while in her fit and she is also knackered for a few days afterwards.
Thankfully the week has gone so far, as a random occassion. She will be going to see a neurologist soon, but I really hope she is okay. When it first started we were al in shock, for the split second before we all reacted.
For me though it was an awkward situation, because although I was trained (first aid training rarely covers siezures - because theres nothing you can do), I still felt I couldnt act, as her parents were stood there. I felt that I wasnt allowed to respond. I did all I could which was, let them cuddle there daughter, whilst I closed that section of the store, got an ambulance, and turned off the lights. When I got back to them there was a nurse with them thankfully, so I went and picked up the paramedics.
Irony was I dont live there, but when the paramedic turned up he was asking the instore security guard questions about the store etc, and the security guard looked for me to answer (I think he was new :S)
I have to say on this occassion though, even for the family it felt like a life time, thankfully the first responder turned up after just 3 minutes. Commendable really.
Still getting nightmares though, it was truely horrible.
So again thanks to those above, and I just hope that it was her one off they were talking about in the hospital. (If not I guess Ill just have to buy a cylinder of oxygen for my first aid kit... )
