Retirement and Birthday Party for 2 different people - combined...

Hi all..taking a step back from being WiiTalk's Uncle for the time being

So, this Friday (tomorrow) my dad is retiring and its also my mum's birthday...My mum has organised a surprise party for my dad at a restaurant where we are all going to go saying for my mum's birthday, and then the surprise will be the family friends etc that attend, if you get what I mean...

So all's good on the dad front...however, my mum said she doesn't want a fuss about her birthday when we're there, but this only means one thing really...she expects something good...

Now, what I need to know...is what can be done to wish her a happy birthday in and amongst the retirement party...?

Thought and ideas are welcome...so far on my list:

1. Birthday Cake and candles...

Then I'm stuck...help please

first thing i'd do is phone up the restaurant mate and see if any of the staff can do something special for her? most places are great for birthdays these days the cakes a definite though (let us now how it goes)

Ok, I just gave them a buzz and I can get the cake stuff sorted for her without her knowing - which I'll do just before going to see them at home...I think i'll leave it for the very end, and also since it is desert

So thats done - well need to find a big-ish cake tomorrow...cheers hillyjodude...

It's not possible now but you could've double crossed the both of them.

i.e. Tell your dad you've organised a party exclusively for your mum's bday, but then told your dad the complete opposite. Would've been quite funny when they both realised

Just a little update:

Party went great...we did the retirement stuff first and brought out a retirement cake etc when the plates were getting cleared up...

Then when people were finishing that cake, I got them to bring out the birthday cake...and there was the surprise element there...and a tasty cake We sat in a good place so my mum couldn't see the cake coming which was cool too...
