Immigration (UK)
Ok, before i start, i have to say, this isn't a rant or anything, its a college assignment, and a bit of research. If this (or anything said) offends anyone, don't go shouting it off in the thread, simply PM me. Also i know this is a touchy subject for some people, if the mods feel it isn't right then just lock it/delete it .
Ok, for a college project, i need to do some research, in that research i have to find out what adults think about the subjects i've chosen to do my 6 week assignment on.
Anyhow, instead of randomly wondering the streets asking random people in this terrible british weather (knowing me i'd pick the wrong guy and he would flip and go crazy at me lol)... i thought here would be a good place to start
So here it is:
What do all of you think about UK immigration? Pro's/con's.
Should it be stricter/more slack?
And what about what immigrats are given? Benfits/houses?
Should we deal with the homeless on our streets before letting more people in?
What about people that break the law? Should they be immediately deported no matter what? Should they be allowed to stay, possibly doing it again?
Thanks for your time and sorry its so long

What do all of you think about UK immigration? Pro's/con's.
I dont think there are any pro's to be honest... lol, i dont agree with immagration at all. Well, no, let me re-phrase that, im fine with immigration, aslong as the people that do come to the UK, dont walk around like they own the place...imagine if we went to the likes or India or another country similar and walked around like we owned the place...we would be there for two minutes and then killed!!
Should it be stricter/more slack?
Definatly needs to be more stricter
And what about what immigrats are given? Benfits/houses?
They should be allowed to be housed in a council house etc, for like a minimum of 5 years, whilst they find there feet, and get registered in the UK, then they should be made to purchase a mortgage and live like everyone else, without benefits.
Should we deal with the homeless on our streets before letting more people in?
Yes!
What about people that break the law? Should they be immediately deported no matter what? Should they be allowed to stay, possibly doing it again?
They should be punished first, through the police and courts, and then if that fails, ship them back.
Sorry if thise offends people how i have described my feelings and thoughts on immigration, but thats how i feel.

I wasn't going to say anything because this is a highly controversial subject which I don't think even the Government knows what they are doing about it, but I hope your paper project is a balanced one.
They are migrants as well as locals who don't work / pay taxes.
Similarly, they are migrants who pay 40% taxes / N.I to support other migrants/locals who don't work despite being able bodied.
Some migrants do end up being British Citizens. Which category do they fall in ?
Once upon a time, there was an idea called the "British Empire" and the subsequent nations after that are known as the Commonwealth Countries where their citizens prior to the nation's independence did have British Citizenship which is why there was an open influx into the country. Not to mention that thing called slavery.
This is happening all over again with the European Union and there will be more foreigners.
There will always be pros and cons to everything. Only time will tell.
Dont forget , before 1783 - there was no such thing as an American (well, the true Americans are the Native Americans but even they are now relegated to "reserves" these days). They are all made up of foreign nations. Look where they're at now .
Make sure you check out the Home Office website on Immigration for more information.
Also don't forget to differentiate between Immigration vs. Asylum Seeking.

About it being balanced, this is my assignment, although it says its a campaign, first i need to find out the things in them bulletpoints. Which is where the research/asking people what they think about the subject, hence this thread, comes into play. Prehaps i should have made it clearer in the first post
Thanks for your thoughts, and kandi if you add stuff, everything is appreciated, and any other replies i get... Would help. thanks!

nutter: May I make a suggestion, put together a spreadsheet based questionaire where your answers can be quantified and then have a small section for opinion at the end. With a well thought out set of questions you can get a much clearer idea of what people think and it will make it easier for you to write up the report at the end. With the questions you have you will have to work out exactly where those people stand on certain issues as the question you have might not cover exactly what you want from the answers.
In stead of are you happy with xxxxxx you could say on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being very unhappy to 5 being very happy how do you feel about xxxxxx?
Provide this either as a downloadable file or ask people who want to help you to pm you for the file or better still use the an online service that will host it for you and then just put up a link.
I'm certain that if you put together around 20 to 25 well thought out questions you will get enough solid information to very quickly rap up the assigment and maybe even quote some of the people who have answered. and I think that your answers will be more honest if they can be given anonymously. It is a touchy subject, as you've said already.
I hope that helps, good luck, it's a tough 1.

Agree with the Keyboard Demon here. When I was sat uni we had to do a dissertation at the end of the final year. When doing these things it's always better to have closed questions as it is easier to quantify peoples opinions and work out trends etc. You could then have a small "any other comments" section at the end or just have a few open ended questions.
A good questionnaire website is surveymonkey
