There is a free membership but you have to click around a lot to find it. They like to hide it from you. Also, I think you need to say you are from the US.

Downloading Far Cry at the moment. WARNING: These games are free because they have in game ads. I've heard they are only in the menus and loading screens, and so are not very intrusive, I just don't want anyone complaining when they find out.

C & C gold was also released free recently, without ads. Will post back later with a link. Wikipedia also has a good list of games released for free.

Click on something to download, (anything will do, you don't have to download it) then click the 'Download this file now' button. It will come up with two subscribtions, don't choose them, click the 'Don't have an account? click here to get one' link and fill in your details, that should do it.

Be aware, there is quite as long wait.

You will need to sign up to either IGN or Fileplanet but you do not need to pay anything,you can if you want and you get the download immediately ,if you have a free account like me you have to queue for a while before the download starts.

Wikipedia list of commercial games released as freeware

The C&C gold link seems to be down at the moment.

Scratch that, here is the link. For some reason it does not appear if you use Firefox. Just load up Internet Explorer and follow the link. I've also heard you can use something called IEtab in Firefox, but have not used it myself.

You do not need to be registered in the USA to download it but when you try to install you get a pop up saying "the game is for the USA only" .
I thought about signing up again and saying I'm in the USA but i cannot be bothered.
