Overheating Laptop?
Hey guys
I've had my Laptop for about 1 year and 4 months now and it's mostly been great! (Althought I do tend to use it as a desk top, in that it never leaves the desk )
Anyway about a month or so ago it started a very annoying trend where, if i was playing a game that had fairly decent graphics (Or Worms Armageddon Online ) it would switch off after about half an hour!
It was then I noticed how hot it was getting and decided that it must be overheating. So I then purchased a decent Cooling Pad with 2 fans to help cool it down. This had been working fine! I could play all my games with no problem for as long as I wanted and it wouldn't turn itself off
But... recently it's started doing it again!! This is with the cooling pad on 'High' as well! I would say I get about 45mins to an Hours gameplay of Worms online before It switches itself off
And now I really don't know what to do Obviously something is wrong and I thought I would ask here before I take it to get checked out...
So any tips or tricks would be much appreciated
Thanks!

Most modern PCs have options to change the speed of the CPU in either a software app install in your OS or in the BIOS. You'd have to check what you got with your laptop.

My AMD has the option to dynamically alter it's speed depending on what it's doing.
Does it go wrong if you just turn it on and leave it sitting there doing nothing?
Thanks
No, it's fine most of the time. It's only when I play online or do something that is quite graphically intensive.
I can browse the net, watch videos etc etc and it will never turn off...

Have a search on the internet (google etc.) for your make and model of laptop with the words "over heating" to see if it is a common problem with your laptop or not.
It could be that your CPU fan is failing and needs replacing. This is a fairly simple procedure to replace it, but you may need to dissassemble your laptop - which is not always for the feint hearted!
