You could have more by getting a 64-bit Operating System, then you could have lots more. 2GB is enough though. Try and get 800MHz or higher.

Intel Core2 Duo E6600 is probably the best for your money processors out at the moment. You could get a E6400 as they are also meant to be good, but you said you wanted the best. Probably best to avoid any higher (i.e. Quad core) at the moment. Whilst I am typically an AMD supporter, Core2 blows them out of the water at the moment.

DX10 is a touchy issue at the moment, as the cards have not really been tested. (except in the Lost Planet demo where they did poorly.) Up too you though as they are typically the most powerful cards, but you might want to get a high end DX9 until DX10 gets better. Mostly down to personal preference.

SATA definitely. People often underestimate the difference a faster hard disk can make to a gaming computer.
