Why I SHOULD go to bed...

Well I used to be a real PC gear-head but my old one kind of got destroyed (the PSU short circuited and wiped out my whole board and everything on it.... /cry)...

So I put this one together quickly and it can just about handle CoD4 / Orange box on minimal at about 20-30 frames and something like World of Warcraft Solid 30-40 frames.

So I started looking around the net... I now have a new mobo, processor and case on its way to me...

I Only got a PS3 a 2-3 weeks a go... I need to stop spending money!!!

At least all I need now is a graphics card and a 910W PSU and I will be good to go... (I can rob rest of stuff from this pc).

Aimed spec:

Asus P5K-E YouTube - Asus P5K Deluxe ATX Socket 775 Motherboard That is a vid of my MB's features (Mine is the slightly stripped version of that... and when I say slightly I mean it has 1 less port... that is the only real difference; it scores the same in benchmarks/reviews etc)

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4)

Geforce 8800GT 512MB OC version

2gig's of 800Mhz DDR2

FSB can hit about 1400 on this board... *drips of water leek from mouth*

So should be a pretty beefy beast...

Only game I really want to play in the near future is Diablo 3 as well... /sigh

My old one would have... but as said; it went up... I had it for about 3 years though.

Had a X850XT GDDR3 256mb Over-clocked to outperform most of the early 512 mb cards.

Processor was a 2.4 clocked to 2.8. Ram was 2Gig's

(Last game I played on it was Oblivion full settings at 30 fps solid) I would still be using that today tbh /cry.

Mine's a Sony Vaio VGC-RA304 and cost me a bit over £1500 brand new 2yrs ago
I bumped the momory upto 2Gb last year, and will be getting a 512Mb card sometime before Sims 3

My MB came... and bang on the box it says FSB (front side BUS) - (in lame man's terms speed) 1600.........

Everything I have read about the board says 1400... So I think I have a revised model...

I have to wait about 3 weeks before I can buy the rest of this beast!! Ugh I wanna start fiddling!!! (1300 is its Out of the box speed ...)

That spec. is very similar to mine. Except I have a standard 8800GT and 4GB of RAM. Sounds great.

I've played the Crysis demo on very high settings (but only about x2 AA) and it ran extremely smooth up until the boat scene at the end. To many particles.

As for the motherboard, yes they do have several revisions, and unless you check the manufacturers website you won't always know if what you get is the latest. Must have been a nice surprise though. I've got a similar (Gigabyte) where the previous 2 revisions only went up to 1333 but mine suddenly jumped to 1600. But that's for overclocking, and I don't want to risk it yet.

Hehe Over-clocking can be a bit temper-mental without proper air-flow etc.

But I always use custom heatsinks / modified fans etc to keep it all nice and cool.

Also that processor can OC from 2.4 - 3.0 without altering the voltage and run at a temp of 45C (pretty standard) thanks to its technology.

Also I may try to push the 1600 just to see what happens... I never do anything major (sit there adjusting them by 5 restarting then testing so I don't go over and blow anything)...

Next 3 weeks are going to be agonising...

I can't decide on a PC case though... that is the one thing that is holding me back...

I hear good things about the Antec 900 but no dust filter's and MID size is a bit off-putting. and the Antec 1200 (which costs about £110 atm) is waaaay too pricey for me.

And any other FULL / MID sized case for the lower price is just compared to the 900... But that case just looks sooo cramped... I want some leg room!

The main thing about overclocking my CPU is knowing what temperatures are fine. But if it can take 45C then I should be able to do it fairly easily as it's running a little over 30C at stock settings.

As for cases, I have got a Coolermaster 690. Had quite a lot of room to work in, and it was a good price at the time. (~£50) But I can't see it being any bigger than the Antec 900, and if that's not big enough then I guess you'll have to keep looking. The other case I considered, but didn't get due to the price, is the Antec P182. At £80-£90 it gets quite close to you other option, but has some amazing reviews. Quiet and well cooled.
