First of, i put this hear as it relates to Mario and Nintendo in general and not just to the Wii.
ok, so a couple of months ago i was compiling a list of games that I was interested in getting for the Wii using Wikipedia to find out what games we're coming out.
I put them into serveral categories for example "Definately getting", "Concidering" and "Keep an eye on"
and after i was done it hit me, my "definately getting" list seemed to only concise of Mario titles, eg Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Mario Olypmics, etc. and it got me thinking, "am i only interested in them because they slapped the name Mario in their? or am i genuinely interested in these games?"
Can nintendo just put out any old crap and we'll all cue outside the shops fighting over it just because Mario is in the title?
Is it that Mario a sign of a guaranteed great game?
So anyway, to the point - what are your opinions on this? are we all buying games just because marios in the title? or are we buying great games and just a mere coincidence that Mario happens to be in the title?
Are nintendo actually milking Mario for all they can to sucker is into the games?
Personally i just buy anything with mario on , as it 95% of the time is good or better. I've never actually had a bad view on any mario game , apart from the golf on the GameCube, but thats just because i dont like golf games ( Yet i still bought it , due to mario. ;] )

gets with mario in the title are always good as i think nintendo make sure they are up to standard so when i see mario in the title i think it will be fun! =)
Well I think no Mario game is a spin off. The ammount of time and effort they put into them is crazy. It's like a new experience every time with Mario!
He dosen't do bad for a plumber does he, getting sucked into the mushroom kingdom i might buy (once or twice maybe), but where does he find time to become a pro at every sport he tries. Tell you what i bet his plumbing business is down the pan by now.

Ya, since mario is nintendo's Official mascot, or one of the things people think of when they say nintendo, They wont want to put out any crap games because if you think of mario when you think of nintendo, and when you think a mario game is bad, It would be property of association.
Mario=Bad
Mario=Nintendo
Nintendo=Bad
I believe that is a reason you can expect so much from mario games.

I think the thing is that Nintendo make top quality first party games and it's just coincidence that they happen to use Mario + friends for most of them.
It makes sense for many reasons, people see it as a seal of approval if it's a Mario game. I'm struggling to think of a game with Mario in recent years that has been rubbish...
It also saves them time having to design new characters and focus more on the actual game itself, which can only be a good thing in my opinion.
It gives a sense of familiarity to their games as well, which makes them easier to play. Just little things like power-ups within mario games are usually the same and we know what to expect from Shells, Mushrooms, Stars etc. It means the gamer can start enjoying the game a lot quicker as they haven't got to learn a whole new set of items.
Also, we know what to expect from each character to a certain extent. E.G Mario will be an all-rounder, D.K will be slow and powerful, Peach will be weak and quick.
It's just little things like these that help make a game instantly enjoyable and familiar. It seems Nintendo stick by the good old saying 'If it ain't broke. Don't fix it'
